BRUSSELS,— Salih Muslim, co-president of
the Syrian Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD) has
accused Turkey of allowing al-Qaeda linked
Islamic-jihadists from the Islamic State of Iraq and
Syria ISIS attacking Kobanê (Ayn al-Arab) in Syrian
Kurdistan (Rojava) to access the area through
Turkish territory.
He said that certain institutions within the Turkish
state were supporting ISIS.
Müslim answered questions from journalist Amed Dicle
on the Rojava programme on MedNuçe TV, saying that
the assault on Kobanê targeted the whole of
Kurdistan. He added: "They want to secure our
surrender with these attacks. But we are resisting.
Today in the ranks of the Kurdish YPG forceswww.Ekurd.net
there are young men and women from North, East and
South Kurdistan as well as from Rojava. They are
falling in the struggle. The martyrs are bringing us
together and consolidating our unity. We will resist
to the end staying true to the memory of our
martyrs."
Müslim said that Kobanê was blockaded on three
sides, one of these sides being Turkey, adding that
the border was closed.
He said that ISIS men wounded in clashes were being
treated in Turkey and that weapons being used
against Kobanê had been brought from Iraq.
These weapons had passed through Rakka where there
was a military base belonging to the Assad regime,
which had not intervened.
Müslim added that the regime saw benefit in the
attacks on the Kurds.
Müslim continued, saying that ISIS members attacking
Kobanê had passed through Turkish territory, adding:
"it is not that easy to convey weapons to the area
in Kobane under attack. There is a bridge on the
road and that is the only means of access, but
hundreds of ISIS members have arrived with heavy
weaponry behind the area where our comrades are. So
either they have come from Turkey or they have gone
into Turkish territory and come out again. There is
no other road. We believe that certain institutions
inside the Turkish state are collaborating with
these gangs. If Turkey denies having any
relationship with them, it needs to explain this. If
young people from Syrian Kurdistan are shot on the
border as they cross, how come hundreds of ISIS
members with heavy weapons can cross without being
seen? We are talking to Turkish officials about
this."
Müslim said they found KCK Executive Council member
Murat Karayılan’s call for support for Rojava and
Iraqi Kurdistan President Barzani's response to be
positive. He said no relationship had developed with
the KDP recently, but that they were always in
favour of national unity and were ready to pay any
price for it.
