QAMISHLO, Syrian Kurdistan,— Following
the fall of the city of Mosul to the
Islamic-jihadists from the Islamic State of Iraq and
Sham (ISIS) linked to al-Qeda, the defence forces of
Syrian (West) Kurdistan, the Kurdish People's
Protection Units YPG, has issued a statement saying
it is ready to defend South (Iraqi) Kurdistan
against these gangs.
Today gangs affiliated to ISIS gained control of the
city of Mosul after launching fresh attacks on
Saturday. This follows ISIS taking over the city of
Fallujah and parts of Ramadi in Anbar province in
January.
The YPG General Command issued a statement today
saying: "As a result of savage, terrorist bomb
attacks carried out by ISIS gangs in Khanaqin,
Jalawla and Tuz Khurmatu on PUK buildings, dozenswww.Ekurd.net
of Southern Kurdistan citizens have been martyred
and many others wounded in recent days. The
massacres carried out in the city of Mosul and the
forced displacement of people are also an assault on
the entire Kurdish people. These attacks are
targeting all the gains of the Kurds."
The YPG pointed out that ISIS gangs have been
carrying out attacks on the Kurdish people with the
support of dark forces for over a year, adding: "As
the YPG we have been struggling against these
extremist groups for over 18 months now. We have
stressed on many occasions that the aim of these
ISIS gangs is to wipe out the Kurdish people. We
have gained valuable experience in our resistance
against these gangs and our fighters have fought
heroically."
'We will fight side by
side with the Peshmerga'
The YPG said it is ready to defend South
Kurdistan against ISIS, adding: "YPG forces
share the pain of the people of South Kurdistan
and offer their condolences to the families of
those who died and a speedy recovery to the
injured. We declare here that we will fight side
by side with the people of South Kurdistan and
the Peshmerga forces against the gangs. We
announce we are ready to support the South and
prepared to send our military experts to
assist."
The YPG statement concluded by issuing an appeal
to all the people of Kurdistan to consolidate
their unity and resist together without regard
to party interests.
