48 Kurdish politicians tried in KCK case released in Turkey  13.4.2014

DIYARBAKIR-AMED, Turkey's Kurdish region,— After over 4 years in prison, finally o Saturday night 48 Kurdish politicians and rights activists in the KCK main trial have been released from jail.

Among them Mehmet Abbasoğlu, Bayram Altun, Besime Konca, lawyer Muharrem Erbey and Celal Yoldaş have all been released.

In 2009 some 92 politicians and human rights activists had been arrested within the scope of the so called KCK (Kurdish Communities Union) trial.

KCK, is the political wing of the Kurdistan Workers' Party PKK.

Here is the list of the 48 relased: Ahmet Birsin, Ahmet Zirek, Alaattin Aktaş, Alican Önlü, Bahri Çeken, Bayram Altun, Besime Konca, Celal Yoldaş, Çimen Işık, Dirayet Taşdemir, Ebru Günay, Elif Kaya, Engin Kotay, Ercan Sezgin, Esma Güler, Fethi Süvari, Gülcihan Şimşek, Hasan İnatçı, Hasan Iraz, Herdem Kızılkaya, Hüseyin Bayrak, Hüseyin Yılmaz, Kamurak Yüksek, Kerem Duruk, Leyla Deniz, Lütfi Dağ, Mazlum Tekdağ, Mehmet Abbasoğlu, Mehmet Ermiş, Mehmet Nimet Sevim, Olcay Kanlıbaş, Pergüzar Kaygısız, Pero Dündar, Pınar Işık, Ramazan Dere, Senanik Öner, Salih Akdoğan, Sebahattin Dinç, Sevi Demir, Şinasi Tur, Şeyhmus Bayhan, Tamer Tanrıkolu, Ünal Ahmet Çelen, Zahide Besi, Zeynep Boğa, Zöhre Bozacı, Muharrem Erbey, Hacire Özdemir.
 
 

Critics say the number of people arrested pending trial in the KCK case tops 3,500, while Turkish official figures from late 2011 say over 600 people had been arrested.

On on March 17, the 2nd heavy penal court in the southeastern Kurdish city of Diyarbakir refused to release 92 Kurdish politicianswww.Ekurd.net in the main case against the KCK. Turkish authorities accuse the KCK of wanting to promote insurrection in Turkey's Kurdish region.

The KCK-trial began on October 18, 2010 when a Turkish court began the trial of 152 high profile Kurdish politicians and rights defenders, accused of being the urban wing of the outlawed separatist Kurdish PKK rebels.

On January 3, 2014, A Turkish court released two Kurdish lawmakers, the Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) deputies Ibrahim Ayhan and Gulser Yildirim have been held on remand since 2010, and being tried in the scope of the so-called KCK (Kurdistan Communities Union) case.

On January 4, 2014, A Turkish court ordered the release from jail on Saturday of three Kurdish lawmakers, who are being tried in the scope of the so-called KCK case.

On March 17, 2014, The 2nd Heavy Penal Court in the southeastern Kurdish city of Diyarbakir refused to release of 92 Kurdish politicians in the main case against the Kurdistan Communities Union (KCK). Also on March 17, Nine lawyers of the imprisoned Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan, who were tried in KCK case were released by the Istanbul 1st Heavy Penalty Court.

On March 26, 2014 Eight journalists have been released in KCK press case, and 37 politicians in the KCK main trial in Istanbul.

Ankara launched clandestine peace talks with the PKK in 2012.
