ERBIL-Hewler, Kurdistan region 'Iraq', —
The Kurdistan region’s Parliament on Wednesday
passed the draft constitution with an overwhelming
majority.
Ninety-six parliamentarians out of a total of 97 who
attended today’s session have voted in favor of the
bill.
“Today is a historic day for our people…Now we have
a constitution,” Speaker Adnan al-Dulaimi said
during the session.
The constitution was read in Arabic and Kurdish.
Also on Wednesday, seven Kurdish lawmakers
withdrew from the
parliament’s session protesting the
attempt to approve the region’s constitution and to
hold referendum on it along with the parliamentary
elections.
