On 24th
March the Kurdish scholar Jamil Rozhbayani was
murdered brutally at the age of eighty-nine at his
home in Baghdad by the Iraqi regime. Jamil
Rozhbayani was born in 1912 in Kirkuk, Iraqi Kurdistan. In
the 1940´s and 50´s he participated actively in
the cultural and political life and development in
Iraqi Kurdistan.
During this period he was arrested and put in jail
by the Iraqi police sever-al times. In the mid-1960´s
he settled in Iran and lived there until 1980,when
he re-turned to Iraqi Kurdistan. He was a member of
the Kurdish Academy of Science and the Iraqi Academy
of Science since 1980.His writings include numerous
volumes on Kurdish history and hundreds of studies
published in Kurdish, Arabic and Persian in
scientific journals. Moreover he translated many
works from Persian and Arabic into Kurdish or vice
versa.
