ERBIL-Hewlêr, Kurdistan region 'Iraq',— The Islamic State of Iraq and Sham linked to al-Qaeda terrorist organization, has announced their responsibility for holding the bomb attacks Sunday, September 29, 2013, took place in Erbil; the capital of Kurdistan Region of Iraq, local Kurdish medias reported.

Kurdistan TV channel affiliated to Kurdistan Democratic Party KDP, said that the militant group has claimed responsibility for the bombings.

Kurdistan TV channel and other channels depended on Tweets for jihadists’ bloggers in the social networking site “Twitter “as they mentioned.

“Jihadist” sites and forums circulated the bombings news and said that attacks were carried out by al - Qaeda suicide bombers.
 

“Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham “organization has been formed by the merger of the two wings of Iraq and Syria and announced hundreds of attacks against civilians in Iraq.

A serious of bomb attacks took place on Sunday and victimized a number of innocent people in Erbil of Kurdistan Region, the most stable region in Iraq.

These attacks are at a time that last week parliamentary elections took place in the region and completed successfully.

A total of five explosions targeted the General Kurdish Security Office building along 60 meter street in Erbil around mid-day Sunday. The death toll reported from security forces has varied from 2 to 6 deaths and there are reports at least 36 people have been injured, Rudaw website reported.

Nawzad Hadi, the governor of Erbil province, told AFP that four members of the Kurdish Asayish security service were killed.

The Ministry of Healthcare of the Kurdistan Regional Government, said that number of victims of the bomb attacks,www.ekurd.net that 6 people have been killed and 61 others have been wounded.

 

The Kurdish security sources of the city have started serious investigations on the attacks.

Sunday's blasts were the first to hit Erbil since May 2007, when a truck bomb exploded near the same Asayish headquarters, killing 14 people and wounding more than 80.

Iraq's autonomous Kurdistan region has become increasingly embroiled in the bloody conflict raging across the border in Syria.

Kurdistan president Massoud Barzani has threatened to intervene in the Syrian conflict to protect Kurdish civilians,www.ekurd.net although officials have since backtracked on those remarks.

On May 9, 2007 a suicide truck bomber from Ansar al-Islam kills 19, wounds 70 in Iraqi Kurdistan's capital of Erbil, Kurdish Ansar al-Islam terrorist group has claimed responsibility for the blast.

May 13, 2007 was another bloody day for the Kurds, a suicide car bomb targeted the headquarters of the KDP party in Makhmour city in Kurdistan region killed at least 30 people and wounded 115 others including the city's mayor. 

 

Nine members of Ansar al-Islam were arrested for these terrorist attacks. Security forces in Iraq’s Kurdistan autonomous region have arrested several followers of previously tolerated Islamist parties, accusing them of links to insurgents.

On February 26, 2007, Houzan Mahmoud, an international representative of MADRE's sister organization, the Organization of Women's Freedom in Iraq, received a death threat by e-mail signed by Ansar al-Islam terrorist group. The death threat, delivered via e-mail, read, "With the permission of Great God, we will kill you either in Iraq or in London by the middle of March, because you are campaigning against Islam. You should be sent to God for punishment."
