17 females raped in one month in Iraq's Kurdistan Region: Violence directorate  24.7.2012

ERBIL-Hewlęr, Kurdistan region 'Iraq', — According to official statistics 17 female in Iraqi Kurdistan Region's cities and provinces were raped in June, said the general directorate of tracing violence against women.

Nine of the rape cases were in Sulaimaniyah, four were in Erbil, two in Duhok and two in Garmian.

The report also mentioned that four women were killed and two killed themselves. One woman was killed in Erbil. There were two female murder cases and one suicide in Sulaimaniyah. One female was killed in Duhok and one in Garmian.

Nine females burned themselves in Erbil in the same period. Also six females were tortured and 88 claims were registered.

In Duhok one female burned herself and 58 cases of female violence were registered.

In Suli four females were burned and four more burned themselves. Some 70 female torture cases and 101 female cases were registered.

In Garmian six women burned themselves,www.ekurd.net 22 females were tortured and 26 claims were registered.
