ERBIL-Hewlęr, Kurdistan region 'Iraq', — The
main Kurdish opposition Gorran Movement has called
for the conversion of Kurdish Peshmerga forces and
Asayish security forces to national forces in the
Kurdistan Region.
Gorran spokesman Dr Shaho Saeed said: "The Kurdish
state should be the target of a political leadership
in the region, but that leadership is seeking to
consolidate its authority instead."
Saeed added that one of the most important necessary
steps to achieve the Kurdish state is to make all
institutions and public agencies in the region
national.
He said the most prominent of these institutions and
organs are Peshmarga and security forces (Asayish).
Peshmarga and Asayish forces in the region obey the
parties in power instead of government and the issue
of conversion of these organs to national is not
easy, said Saeed.
