ERBIL-Hewlęr, Kurdistan region 'Iraq', — All
the opposition parties in the Kurdistan Region will
do their best to take the legal and civil measures
in order to dissolve the newly founded "illegal"
Kurdistan Security Council and to invalidate its
law.
The announcement came in a joint statement by Gorran
(Change) Movement, Kurdistan Islamic Union,
Kurdistan Islamic Group (KIG) and Kurdistan Future
Party (KFP).
The statement pointed the finger at the two ruling
parties, the Barzani's Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP)
and Talabani's Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK)
for enforcing a law "with a national dimension which
required political and national consensus."
The opposition forces stress that they will oppose
the Security Council and its law "until the law is
ratified by a general consensus inside Kurdistan
Parliament so that it reflects a national not a
partisan foundation."
The statement said that the bill for Kurdistan
Security Council was ratified disregarding the
boycott by the opposition forces which in itself was
a reflection of the public protests and opposition
to the bill.
Two days ago the Security Council was officially
announced. It comprises the Asayish (security) and
intelligence foundations which were established by
KDP and PUK years ago.
"These partisan organizations are not organized by
any laws," opposition statement said "at the same
time the president of the region is authorized to
add new intelligence foundations to the [Security]
Council."
It continued "a council with such vast and absolute
authorities without being monitored by parliament is
a hazardous sign which shows the authority aspires
for a unilateral inclination."
I t added such an authority will seriously work to
lead the government towards non-democracy and police
state.
The new council is run by Security Adviser Masrour
Barzani,www.ekurd.net
son of Kurdistan President Massoud Barzani. He is
assigned the rank of a minister.
His deputy is PUK's Khasraw Gul, also assigned the
rank of a minister. KPD Ismat Argoshi is Gul's
deputy.
