ERBIL-Hewlęr,
Kurdistan region 'Iraq',— The head of the Electoral
Commission in Iraq stated Tuesday that the committee
has developed a plan to hold the elections for
provinces and districts and the areas of Iraq, with
the elections being postponed until April instead of
March as planned.
Faraj Haidari said: "The elections were expected to
be held on March 17 but they will be held in April.
The commission asked for a loan from the Council of
Ministers of $10,000 as an initial payment to
prepare for the elections, but the commission has
yet to receive this amount.
"The failure to provide the amount was a major cause
behind the delay in holding the elections."
The Electoral Commission announced on January 23,
2012 about the completion of the final draft of the
elections law of the provinces, districts and areas,www.ekurd.net
confirming that it would be referred soon to the
Council of Representatives for vote and pointing out
that the elections would be held next year.
The provincial elections were held in 2009 in all
parts of Iraq except Kirkuk and the Kurdistan
Region.
