90% of water shortage
solved in Erbil, says Water Directorate
Erbil: Erbil’s Water Directorate said 90 percent of
water shortage problems have been solved in Erbil
and many of the city's neighborhoods had water
problems in the past few months. Directorate
spokesman Massoud Mohammed said: "Erbil city had
water problems from the middle of May until the
beginning of June but now 90 percent of the shortage
has been fixed. "Only 10 percent of the city has
water issues, such as Sarkarezan, Galwezh and
Sebardan neighborhoods due to drought. It is
expected that the directorate will sort this problem
in the next few days." Mohammed added that the
directorate is now working on two water projects -
surface-water project 3 and 4. The neighborhoods
suffering from a lack of water are 159 Gulan,
Khanzad, Sarwaran 2, Raparin 2, Kuwestan and Nawroz

New US General Consul to
Kurdistan Region begins work,
Erbil: Paul Steven began his work on Monday in Erbil
as the new US General Consul to the Kurdistan
Region.In a meeting with the head of foreign
relations of the Kurdistan Regional Government Falah
Mustafa, Steven explained his country’s program to
strengthen work between the two countries, said a
statement from the Kurdistan Regional Government.
Mustafa praised the former US Consul to Erbil Alex
Laskaris and his role in making the US-Kurdistan
relationship stronger. Both sides talked about ways
of enhancing sectors in the region, such as economy,

Barzani receives Obama's
letter on mutual understanding
Erbil: Kurdish region president Massoud Barzani
received Monday a letter from US president Barrack
Obama stressing bilateral understanding, according
to an official statement here. The statement, copy
received by Aswat al-Iraq, added that the new US
General Consul Powell Stephen handed over the
letter. Stephen confirmed that he will try to
establish an important American presence in the

International Peace
Organization to meet in Kurdistan
Erbil: Kurdish region president Masoud Barzani met
International Peace Organization delegation,
according to an official statement. Head of the
Organization Yan Jim Kin disclosed that the coming
conference will be held in Kurdistan. He expressed
appreciation to brotherly relations among the
region's ethnic components and the stability of the
situation there. On the other hand, President
Barzani expressed support to the work of the

Kurdistan produces 3,000 MW of power
Erbil: The Kurdistan region is producing 3,000 MW of
power, according to electricity minister, who
underlined that the ministry plans to raise them to
6,000 by 2015. "Our production capacity now is 3,000
and we provide citizens with 22 hours," Yassin
Abubakr Mawti said. "Works ongoing to produce 6,000
MW by 2015 through the establishment of three dams
to get electricity through the hydraulic mechanism
and to benefit from them in projects related to
