Visa directorate to open in
Kurdistan Region
Erbil: The Kurdistan Region's Ministry of Interior
has established a new directorate for visas in the
region. A ministry statement said: “The Interior
Ministry decided to open a visa directorate for
public interests, a rise in visa affairs and to
increase the services for foreigners in the
Kurdistan Region.” The new directorate will have
three divisions: visa and temporary residency,
recommendations and document ratification for
passports and identity, and a data and statistics
section. The ministry upgraded the status of the
visa section to directorate, which will be under the
supervision of the general directorate of the
ministry's office directly. aknews.com
17,000 children born in
Sulaimaniyah in six months
Sulaimaniyah: Some 17,005 children were born in
Sulaimaniyah city aka (Suli) in the past six months,
announced Suli’s nationality and personal status
directorate. The birth rate increased by 64.6
percent in comparison to last year, according to a
statement from the directorate. Some 8,525 of this
number are boys and 8,480 are girls. Suli's
population at the end of June was 1,532,315.
Director of the births and deaths register office
Omer Rashid said 21,987 new children were registered
in health directorates in Suli in 2011, which means
one child in every 23 minutes and 48 seconds. Rashid
added: "But this year a child was born every 15
minutes and 24 seconds." aknews.com
Kurdistan Region's oil
policy based on constitution, says Barzani
Erbil: The Kurdistan Region's oil policy is based on
Iraq's constitution and there is nothing unclear and
hidden in it, said the head of the regional
government. Nechirvan Barzani attended the 17th
graduation ceremony of Duhok University on Monday to
congratulate graduates. The PM pointed out that the
problems and political issues in the country come
from Iraq's non-commitment to the constitution, said
a statement from the Kurdistan Regional Government.
He said Iraq uses a policy of procrastination
towards the Kurdistan Region, especially on oil and
gas issues, and this complicates such issues on a
daily basis. Barzani added: "The oil policy in the
region is based on these rights given to Kurds
according to the Iraqi constitution and 80 percent
of Iraqi people voted for the constitution."

We will place Duhok airport
foundation stone in two months, says Barzani
Erbil: The Kurdistan Region's Prime Minister
Nechirvan Barzani announced that they will lay the
foundation stone of Duhok airport in two months. The
news comes after Barzani's meeting with Duhok
governor and officials, reports the government's
website. Barzani talked about many issues, one of
them was the construction of more schools in the
Kurdistan Region, especially in Shangal and Zummar.
He said that his government will begin building
hospitals in the city, town and districts of Duhok
soon. Also he said that his visit to Duhok is part
of the government’s concern to solve problems and
improve public services in the province. The added:
"We want to create an organized foundation for
optimistic future." aknews.com
US delegation visits
Kurdistan government's Ministry of Finance
Erbil: A US chamber of commerce delegation has
visited the Kurdistan Region's Ministry of Finance
and Economy. The delegation, which included vice
president of US commerce affairs for the Middle East
and North Africa Lionel Johnson and director of Iraq
affairs in the US chamber Steven Lyons, met with
Minster Bayiz Talabani. Both sides discussed how to
improve US-Kurdish relations, according to a
statement from the ministry. The visitors
talked about ways to convince US companies and banks
to invest in the region. The minister mentioned that
the government is working on 400 projects this year.
The minister promised to facilitate work
opportunities for US investors who want to invest in

Qatar delegation to visit
Kurdistan Region
Erbil: A delegation of investors and business people
from Qatar will visit the Kurdistan Region in the
next few days, said the head of the region's Chamber
of Commerce and Industry. Dara Jalil Khayat said:
The chambers officially invited Qatar majors to
visit the region to look for work opportunities and
meet with the region's investors. "The purpose of
the visit is to convince Qatari companies to
participate in the region more than what they do now
because Qatari companies have experience and we can
benefit from their participation." Head of relations
at the chambers Azad Ahmed said the Qatari companies
that are set to visit the region have worked in the
oil, industry, tourism, electricity and construction
