ANKARA, — A delegation from the Kurdish National Council of Syria (KNCS) is now in Turkey on an official invitation from the Turkish Foreign Ministry, a source said.

The delegation left two days ago, according to the source who wished to remain anonymous.

The source added the delegation comprises General Secretary for the Developing Democratic Party Abdul-Hamid Darwish, who is also a member in the KNCS's relations committee, and General Secretary of Kurdistan Democratic Party of Syria Abdul-Hakeee Bashar.

According to the source the delegation is to meet in Istanbul with Turkish officials as well as the Syrian National Council (SNC, the largest opposition alliance) which recently elected a Kurdish leader, Abdul-Baset Sida.

Two months ago the KNCS withdrew from the SNC conference in protest to SNC's ignoring of Kurdish demands,www.ekurd.net including self-determination within the frame of Syria.

Kurds have repeatedly voiced concerns over the role of Turkey in the Syrian crisis and its negative consequences for Kurdish demand for ethnic recognition and autonomy.

There are roughly three million Kurds living in Syria who are not recognized as a separate ethnic group in the country which is ruled by a religious minority.

Kurdish citizens are actively engaged in public protests to overthrow Bashar al-Assad regime. Thousands have been killed by the violence of the Syrian regime to quench the protests in the past 16 months.
