NETHERLANDS, — Dutch and German bookstores
have issued the book Adventure in Kurdistan by
German writer Karl May, who wrote some of his novels
on the mountains of Kurdistan and covered the events
in the region in the years 1881-1887.
The book was issued by Friedrich Ernst in Freiburg
in Germany. The book includes various events in the
region, such as the military movements of the Turks
in the areas of Kurdistan in Turkey and Iraq, and
the role of Kurdish Sheikh Mohammed Amin in
defending the Kurds against foreign occupations.
The book also addresses the relationship of Sir
David Lindsay with the Kurds - where he found them
strong people in defending their existence and their
land - and how the colonization of their lands
failed. The author mentions the bitter conflict in
the provinces of Kurdistan between the Christians
and the Muslims.
Writer Karl May devoted his talent and intellect to
helping oppressed peoples and the perpetuation of
their symbols where he wrote about the genocide
against the American Indians. He also wrote about
wars in the mountains of Kurdistan and the wars of
the Ottoman against the Armenians and Kurds.
It is estimated that about 200 million copies of his
works have been sold on a global level, including
100 million in Germany. His books have been
translated into more than 50 languages.
May has a wealth of ethnological information which
has helped him in narrating his adventures in the
Kurdistan Region, Arab countries, among the Persians
and Turks,www.ekurd.net
and in East Africa, India and other locations.
His most notable texts include Through the Desert,
From Baghdad to Istanbul, Pilgrimage to the Land of
the East, The Prince and Mahdi, where he says he
analyzes the relationship between Christianity and
Islam, as well as the historical relationship
between the Arabs, Turks and Kurds.
May acknowledges that some of what was written was
the result of philosophical musings in the mountains
of Kurdistan.
