Erbil: President of the Kurdistan Region Massoud Barzani and Deputy Prime Minister of Turkey Bülent Arınç will be on air at 4:00pm Wednesday to open the Kurdish Sorani department on TRT6 TV channel. Barzani and Maliki may not meet soon, says Kurdish source

Duhok: An informed Kurdish source Wednesday ruled out that a meeting will take place soon between the Kurdistan Region's President Massoud Barzani and Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, as media reports stated earlier. The anonymous source said: "The media reports that spoke about the meeting seek to create doubts among the parties seeking to withdraw confidence from Maliki and his government. “Parties in the State of Law Coalition (SLC) may be behind the launch of such leaks where reports stated earlier that a meeting will be held between Maliki and Moqtada al-Sadr but this did not happen." Iraqi and Kurdish media stated that many active political figures are working to calm the situation by holding a meeting between Barzani and Maliki while other sources stated that the discussion is taking place about the place for holding the meeting, indicating that Barzani requested holding it in Erbil while Maliki seeks to hold it in Baghdad.....

This announcement came after a meeting between the region's Minister Ismat Khaled and a delegation from the Iranian consulate in Erbil headed by consul Azim Husseini. The ministry said in a statement that Husseini confirmed Iran’s willingness to open Iranian basic schools and centers in the region. The statement added that the schools and centers will be subject to Iranian education standards.

Iraq accepts opening Sudan consulate in Erbil

Erbil: Iraq’s government has agreed to open a Sudanese consulate in the capital city of the Kurdistan Region, Erbil. Iraqi government spokesperson Ali Dabagh said in a statement that Iraq accepted Sudan's request to open the consulate in the Region on condition that Iraq retains the right to open a consulate in Sudan in the future according to the principle of reciprocity. The number of consulates in the Kurdistan Region will be 25 when Sudan opens the consulate. Kuwait's ambassador in Iraq earlier this year announced the opening of a consulate in Erbil in the future.
