BAGHDAD, —
The proposal made by the Kurdistan Region's
President Massoud Barzani about resolving Iraq
Sunni VP Hashemi's issue is the most politically
acceptable suggestion, the Kurdish Blocs
Coalition (KBC) said today.
Barzani made a proposal last month to resolve
Hashemi's issue politically through holding a
meeting for the three presidencies along with
Iraqiya List. This was considered by the State
of Law Coalition as trespassing the judiciary
and the lives of innocent people.
The vice chairman of the KBC Mohsen al-Saadoun
told AK news: "We believe that the applications
that reach Kurdistan Region calling for the
delivery of Hashemi without political consensus
will affect adversely the street and we're close
for holding a national meeting and the meeting
of the Arab summit.
"The KBC rejects the political and media bidding
in Hashemi's issue," he said.
"Hashemi did not enter the Kurdistan region as a
defendant but as vice president of the Republic
and if Hashemi was accused he would have been
prevented from traveling," he added.
Hashemi stated on Monday that he plans to stay
in the Kurdistan Region unless he becomes an
"embarrassment" to the Kurdish authorities.
Iraq's Central Criminal Court has set May 3 as
the date for the first trail session of Hashemi
and his secretary and son in law Ahmed Qahtan in
absentia with three charges attributed to them.
There are also 70 other people in the VP's
office wanted by the courts.
Hashemi accused the Iraqi judiciary of being
subject to the power of the executive after his
requests to the judiciary to transfer his case
from Baghdad to Kirkuk province were denied.
The Iraqi Supreme Judiciary Council issued an
arrest order for Hashemi on December 19 on
terrorism charges after his guards confessed the
VP was involved in series of attacks.
Hashemi denied the charges and fled to
Kurdistan, where he is currently under the
protection of Iraqi Kurdistan regional
officials.
The VP, who is a member of the Sunni-backed
Iraqiya bloc,www.ekurd.net
believes Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki is
behind the accusations. Hashemi said previously
that he may resort to the international
community for assistance.
On February 16 the council announced Hashemi's
involvement in 150 armed operations that
targeted judges, doctors and senior officers in
the ministries of defense and interior by using
silent weapons and missiles.
