ERBIL-Hewlêr, Kurdistan region 'Iraq', — President of Iraq's Kurdistan Region Massoud Barzani called here Sunday for resolving the case of Vice President Tareq Al-Hashemi through dialogue among all parties concerned.

Addressing a rally of students and youth in Erbil, Barzani called on all Iraqi leaders to sit together to find a way out of Al-Hashemi's case.

He cautioned that unless the problem was overcome, there would be grave consequences on the country.

But, he said: "It's up to court to decide upon the case. And a court decision must be put in force." Iraq is set to witness soon a national conference called by Iraqi President Jalal Talabani.

Barzani hoped that the conference would come up with a set of significant resolutions that could lead to a way out of the current crisis in Iraq.

Earlier in the day, Iraqi court decided to put Vice President Al-Hashemi on trial in absentia after he refused to return to Baghdad to stand trial.

Al-Hashemi has been in Kurdistan for several months shortly before an arrest warrant was made against him. Iraqi courts have no actual authority on the autonomous Kurdish region.

Hashemi would be tried in absentia according to Article 121 of the Code of Criminal Procedure of 1971,
www.ekurd.net Iraqi media reported. He is accused of involving in terrorist activities and the assassination of Iraqi officials.

The arrest warrant for Hashemi was issued under anti-terror laws.
