Ministry to officially
demand end to forcible deportations
Erbil:Iraqi government has agreed to officially
demand European Union countries stop forced
deportation of Iraqi asylum seekers, minister of
migration said. Speaking to AKnews, Dindar Najman
said that the General Secretariat of the Council of
Ministers has officially agreed to address the
demand. In the past few years some European
countries, notably Sweden, Norway and the UK,
started the deportation campaign. According to the
International Federation of Iraqi Refugees, 7,000
Iraqi and Kurdish asylum seekers were deported and
most of them were Kurds. Around 700 Kurdish asylum
seekers were deported since January 2011. The
deportation also included some of the asylum seekers
who were granted residence but were unable to stay
as their residency was not renewed....aknews.com
Iraqi families flee from
Syria
Erbil: In the past two weeks alone around 200 Iraqi
families have fled troubled Syria and returned home,
the Iraqi minister of migration disclosed on
Thursday. As the security and political situation in
Syria deteriorates further more and more families
are seeking refuge in Iraq. Minister of Migration
Dindar Najman explained that some returning families
do not register themselves and so the actual number
flocking home since the outburst of public protests
could be much higher. Next week, a delegate will
travel to Damascus to discuss ways in which to
return Iraqi expatriates who wish to come back with
the Iraqi Ambassador in Syria. Najman added: "The
ministry will assist returnees at the Walidi Camp on
border with Syria by providing temporary shelter for
them." "We will do our best to resettle any family
who returns now," the minister promised. aknews.com

Union of Kurdistan nominates Region's Deputy PM
Sulaimaniyah: The Official Spokesman for north
Iraq's Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), Azad
Jindiany, has announced on Thursday that PUK's
Leadership had convened today to nominate one of its
personalities for the post of Deputy Premier for
Kurdistan Region, after the decision of the Region's
Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) that nominated
Nichervan Barzani for the Premier's post. "PUK's
Leadership is convening today to chose its official
nominee for the post of Kurdistan Government's
Deputy Premier's post," Jindiany told Aswat al-Iraq
news agency, adding that PUK's Political Bureau
Member, Imad Ahmed, was the most outstanding nominee
for the post." He said that "the final and official
decision for PUK's nominee for the post of the
Region's Deputy Premier would be announced in
today's meeting, according to the decision to
exchange leading posts in Kurdistan Region's
government and Parliament between the 2 Parties that
won the 2009 Parliamentary Elections, the DPK, led
by Massoud Barzani and PUK, led by Jalal Talabani.
DPK's nominee, Nechirvan Barzani, was nominated for
the post of Premier, to succeed PUK's
Secretary-General, Barham Saleh, who occupied the
post for the past 2 years, whilst the post of the
Kurdistan Parliament's Speaker would be nominated by
PUK, to succeed the current Speaker, Kamal Kirkuki.

Kurdistan economic forum in
Dubai
Erbil: In the hope of fostering economic development
in Kurdistan Region and attracting more investors to
the booming regional economy an economic forum will
be held in Duabi in two months time. Shilan Khanaqa,
Kurdistan Region's representative to the United Arab
Emirates told AKnews that the two-day conference
will be held under the auspices of the Dubai Emirate
and Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry. She did
not mention the exact date of the conference.
However she did claim officials from Kurdistan,
including ministers for tourism, and trade and
industry, heads of investment boards and chambers of
commerce, as well as a considerable number of
Kurdish businessmen will attend the conference. The
conference will spotlight the high security and
stability in Kurdistan to attract more investors,

Nechirvan Barzani: We
welcome broad-based government
Erbil: Kurdistan Democratic party (KDP)’s Nechirvan
Barzani, who is expected to head a new Kurdistan
Regional Government (KRG) cabinet soon said Tuesday
that he would welcome a broad-based cabinet that
includes all political parties in the region.
Barzani’s comment came on the sidelines of a meeting
with the leader of the Kurdistan Socialist Party on
Tuesday – part of a series of meetings the KDP man
has started recently in an attempt to bring together
as many of the opposition parties as possible into
his new cabinet. Barzani is preparing to head the
KRG soon as part of a political deal between the KDP
and its ally the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK)
which states on power-sharing. “We will be happy to
have a broad-based government for the next cabinet…
it is the duty of all of us to try and work to serve
this country and its people” Barzani told a press
