LONDON, UK, — On Saturday, 21st January 2012 at Kurdish Community Center in London, Kurdish Social Media Gathering took place. The subject of the meeting were mass media and means of mass communication, specially Internet, and their important role in riding awareness and spreading the information about the problems of Kurdistan and Kurdish people.

The special thanks goes to the great activist of non-Kurdish origin, who is living in London and is widely known by the name Hevallo (@Hevallo - on Twitter). He is the author of the blog "Hevallo. Turkey and the Kurdish Question", that covers all the important, current and past, issues of Kurdistan. Hevallo is also the founder of #TwitterKurds - very popular hash-tag on Twitter website, where all the issues, news and events concerning Kurdistan are discussed, as well as the actions of mass tweeting about some crucial events, like Wan Earthquake or Uludere Massacre are hold, sometimes for all night long. Hevallo was one of the speakers at the meeting - he was talking about the his personal experiences from his visit to Bakuri Kurdistan (North Kurdistan) some years ago, that had a big impact on him and changed his life.

Other Kurdish activists, who are based in London took part in the meeting as well and those who are living outside UK, in Europe and USA joined us via Skype.

One of the participants - great young Kurdish lady, came all the way long from Australia to take part in the meeting. She was also one of the speakers and she expressed her concern about the lack of activities among Kurds, who lived in her city, as well as the fact that there is no any organized Kurdish community over there. She also promised to do her best to improve the situation.

We also had the chance to watch the videos, that were recorded for that event - one of the video was the speech of Abdulla Demirbas. We also get the video made by Japanese lady, who is a friend of Kurds and one of the active members of Twitter (@Melikejaponya) - she is spreading the news about Kurdistan among the people in Japan.

At the end of the meeting all the audience took active part in a discussion.

Social media, specially Internet is a powerful tool, that we all should use in our struggle for freedom and independence of Kurdistan. Through Internet we are able to reach thousands millions of users in every corner of the earth. It also helps us to be in contact with each other,www.ekurd.net both individually and in a wider group - we can communicate very easy, share the news immediately and be updated with all the important events.

We should use this great possibility, that Internet gives to us in our struggle for the future of Kurdistan. Very important part of this struggle is spreading the truth about the situation of Kurdish people in occupied territories, as well as correcting all the misinformation about this issue, that we spot on Internet websites.

All Kurds and friends of Kurds - don't hesitate to use this tool, because even one little step of an individual person can make the difference. We never know what will be the result of the action that we undertake. And if we imagine a huge number of people, who will act and react, we will get a huge number of little steps, that for sure must make a difference.

Some of us are fightinf for our rights and freedom in the mountains, with the weapon. Let's support them and let's make a social media - Internet - to be our weapon. Let's our words to be our bullets - we can make a difference, we can change the reality. We have to do that - so don't waste this great chance, join us on Twitter, Facebook and any other possible site - be a part of Social Media Kurdish Family and fight together with us for our rights and for our freedom.
