BAGHDAD, —
A team of legal experts from Kurdistan arrived in
Baghdad on Saturday on a fact finding mission. They
are collecting information about Vice President
Tareq al-Hashemi's case from the Independent Supreme
Judiciary Council of Iraq.
Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's deputy for
Kurdistan Affairs, Adel Barwari, told AKnews Iraqi
President Jalal Talabani and his Kurdistan Regional
counterpart Massoud Barzani are aware of the
delegation's visit.
The delegation will also meet with Supreme Council
officials for information on the procedures to take
Hashemi to court,www.ekurd.net
given he is still the Vice President.
"Hashemi's issue should be resolved," Barwari said.
"The case has become complicated due to political
interferences; therefore, it must be placed within
the context of a judicial as well as a political
solution.
35 of Hashemi's guards
arrested, 15 fugitive
Of Tareq al-Hashemi's 50 body guards and staff
wanted in connection with the the terrorism charges
leveled against their boss, 35 have been arrested
and are being interrogated. This is according to
Hakem al-Zamli, a member of the committee
investigating the indicted Vice President.
"There are confessions which proven Hashemi cared
for them, shared with them and supported them
financially," Zamli added. "We hope that Hashemi is
not involved."
A force arrested deputy Diyala governor Riyadh
Adhadh on Wednesday based on the confessions by the
Vice President's bodyguards who alleged the official
is involved in funding terrorists.
