Two Peshmerga members
arrested for “accidentally” crossing Iraqi-Syrian
borders
Mosul: Kurdistan’s Peshmerga Ministry announced, on
Monday, that Syrian Forces arrested two Peshmerga
members within Syrian territories noting that they
accidentally entered Syria. “Two members of
Peshmerga Ministry’s 8th Brigade, positioned near
Iraqi-Syrian borders, were arrested today by Syrian
Forces after they accidentally entered Syrian
territories,” Secretary General and official
spokesman for Peshmerga Ministry Major General Jibar
Yawar told Alsumarianews. “There are almost 500 m
between Iraqi and Syrian checkpoints in the region,”
Yawar explained indicating that this explains why
the two Peshmerga members crossed the borders, a
source told Alsumaria. “Peshmerga Ministry contacted
Iraqi Foreign Affairs Ministry and Kurdistan
regional government to act in favor of the two men
release,” Yawar uttered. Administrative regions of
Kurdistan include about 7 km of Iraqi-Syrian borders
in Duhok Province. Other Iraqi-Syrian border
distances are within Nineveh Province. Peshmerga
Ministry forces are securing northern borders since
2003 and, not long ago, the ministry officially
deployed forces in the region. alsumaria.tv
