BERLIN, Germany, —
The German police supposedly warned Iranian
opposition party leader Abdul Rahman Haji Ahmadi of
an assassination attempt by the Iranian government.
Sherzad Kamangar, a spokesperson for "Party of Free
Life for Kurdistan" (PJAK), claimed that other
countries have warned the party as well.
“The German police has taken measures to protect the
leader,” Kamangar said, claiming that this was not
the first time Iran has planned to assassinate
members of Kurdish parties inside and outside the
country.
Rahman Haji Ahmedi lives in Cologne, Germany.
The German federal police, the Bundeskriminalamt (BKA),
told AKnews, "The fact is known by the BKA. If we
see an imminent threat for people living in Germany,
police authorities will take any necessary measures
to protect them.".
In 1993 Dr. Said Sharafkandi, (Democratic
Party of Kurdistan-Iran KDPI)
leader,
assassinated in
Berlin's Mykonos Restaurant by Iranian Islamist
agents.
In 1989, a legendary Kurdish
leader and then the Secretary-general of
KDPI, Dr. Abdul-Rahman
Ghassemlou and two of his associates were
killed by
Iranian agents in
an apartment in the outskirts of the Austrian
capital Vienna where they were holding secret talks
with envoys sent by then Iranian president Akbar
Hashemi Rafsanjani.
The PJAK, or the (Partiya Jiyana Azad a Kurdistane) (Party of Free Life of
Kurdistan), is a militant Kurdish nationalist group based in Kurdistan region in
Iraq's north that
has been carrying out attacks Iranian forces in the Kurdistan Province of Iran
(Eastern Kurdistan) and other Kurdish-inhabited areas.
PJAK is a member of the Kurdistan Democratic Confederation (Koma Civaken
Kurdistan or KCK)

Iran (Eastern Kurdistan). Half the members of PJAK
