Leading Iraqi Kurdish MP calls for
dialogue to settle differences among Kurdish Parties

Kurdistan region 'Iraq', — The Legislature from
north Iraq's Kurdistan Coalition, Mahmoud Othman,
has called on different Kurdish ruling and
opposition parties to settle their differences
through dialogue and to keep away from tension, in
order to treat the problems, according to a
statement issued by his office on Wednesday.
The sudden statement, issued by the opposition,
Gorran (Change), Movement, calling to
dissolve the (Kurdistan) Parliament
and government and to link the situation in
Kurdistan with what happened in Tunisia, Egypt and
other countries, had created strong and broad
reactions by the Presidency of Kurdistan, its
Parliament, government, parties and other forces,
thing that created tension, anxiety and fear among
citizens," the statement, copy of which landed in
Aswat al-Iraq news agency said
The Kurdish opposition Gorran (Change) Movement had
issued a statement on 29/1/2011, demanding to
dissolve Kurdistan Region's government and
parliament, and to carry out political,
administrative reforms, as well as the treatment of
the corruption problem.

All this necessitates
leaning to dialogue inside the Parliament and among
parties, government and opposition, on the level of
leaderships and decision-makers, and to keep away
from using the mass media, the street and all what
complicates the situation and undermines our
experience and serves the forces that are lurging us
and don't wish us success," Othman said
Noteworthy is that 19 parties and political
movements in Kurdistan had rejected, in a meeting
held under the chairmanship of Kurdistan Region's
President, Massoud Barzani, last Sunday, the call of
the Gorran Movement to dissolve the Region's
government and parliament,www.ekurd.netstressing
that any attempt to achieve reform and change must
take within the framework of "political and legal
legitimacy," as well as rejecting any effort that
"will undermine the security situation and the
peaceful coexistence among the Kurdistan people's
components
The Kurdistan Parties meeting and their rejection of
Gorran Movements demands, took place after one day
from the date of the Movement's statement, led by
the former leader, who split from the Patriotic
Union of Kurdistan (PUK), led by Iraqi President,
Massoud Barzani, Nawshirwan Mustafa, demanding to
dissolve the Region's government and parliament, and
to prepare the astmospheres for "free elections
within a period not exceeding three months, and to
return the properties, used by both ruling parties
and government officials (to their owners), the
withdrawal of the Region's constitution and laws,
and to raise them to the next parliament
Gorran enjoys wide support in Kurdistan region,
Gorran emerged in regional elections in 2009 as a
rival to the two main ruling Kurdish parties and won
25 seats in the parliament. Gorran is challenging
Talabani's PUK and
the KDP of regional
president Massoud Barzani and accuses the parties of
corruption.
The Gorran headed by the former senior PUK-leader
Nawshirwan Mustafa, who was Talabani’s deputy until
2007. Since the July 2009 elections in which it
secured almost a third of the seats of 111-member
Parliament of Kurdistan.
