SULAIMANIYAH,
Kurdistan region 'Iraq', — The Vice President
Tareq al-Hashemi does not intend to leave Iraq
before resolving his case with the Iraqi judiciary,
his office said Thursday.
Media leaks reported about the intention of the Vice
President Tareq al-Hashemi, who is in the Kurdistan
region, to travel to Turkey.
Iraqi independent MP Alia Nsaif
criticized Turkish interventions in vice-president
Tariq al- Hashemi's case by
readiness to receive
him.
The political tension escalated in Iraq against
after the issuance of an arrest warrant against
Hashemi, on terrorism charges, and the sacking of
Deputy Prime Minister Saleh al-Mutlaq after he
described the Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki Maliki
as "like a dictator".
The Iraqi judiciary has issued a decision preventing
Hashemi and some of his bodyguards from traveling
outside Iraq. Hashimi has refused any political
mediation to resolve the charges against him.
This week Turkey said in principle it would not
oppose Hashemi from visiting the country.
Hashemi said that the Iraqi judiciary is under the
influence of the executive branch,www.ekurd.net
and that his bodyguards' confessions presented by
the government were taken under torture and threats.
Iraqi President Jalal Talabani and Speaker of the
Council of Representatives Osama al-Nujaifi agreed
two days ago to resolve Hashemi's case and called
for an emergency national conference for all Iraqi
political leaders to find a resolution.
The Iraqiya leader Ayad Allawi said yesterday the
presence of the President of the Kurdistan Region
Massoud Barzani and the two Shiite leaders Moqtada
al-Sadr and Ammar Hakim would have to be in
attendance if he was to attend. He also demanded a
committee be formed to oversee the integrity of the
investigation about Hashemi's issue.
A spokesman for the government said such a committee
would be unconstitutional as it would be the
executive interfering with the running of the
courts.
