This is not the first attack on Mr.Qadir, who is known for his
critical articles against Kurdistan Democratic Party KDP authorities, including Massoud Barzani the president of Kurdistan region of Iraq and his family.

In February 2008 Qadir was attacked and wounded by five bodyguards of Masrour Barzani, the director of the Intelligence and Security Agency of the Kurdistan Regional Government and the son of Massoud Barzani.

He was arrested and imprisoned in Iraqi Kurdistan region for criticizing Massoud Barzani, he was sentenced to 30 years imprisonment for the defamation.

He was released in 2006 after international pressure and as a result of efforts by special envoy of the Austrian foreign ministry, Gudrun Harrer.

Qadir said "It was early evening as I was coming home, I saw a man moving towards me, he was from South-European look, as I reached the door of my house, I felt a hit on my head and immediately lost my conscious,"

He continued "as I woke up I saw blood running down from my head and some of my neighbours were around me who had already kindly contacted emergency and police. In hospital they discovered several injuries on my head and I was released after two days,"

I think I will not survive the next attempt, even this time I escaped only because my neighbour appeared, he added.

Qadir explained to ekurd.net the reasons behind the attack as "Days before this event I was observed and provocated by some members of the Kurdistan Democratic Party among them Mr. Sabah Zebari, the Uncle of Mr. Massoud Barzani. The Austrian police has already started the investigations, but I do not trust them, or the Austrian judiciary. There are strong economic ties between Barzani family and Austria."
