Iraqi Kurdistan parliament
to hold first session of new season
Erbil: Iraq's Kurdistan parliament will begin its
autumn session next week, the Kurdistan News Agency
reported on Wednesday. The body is the parliament of
the Kurdistan Regional Government in Iraq, which
governs the northern semi-autonomous Kurdish
territory. The parliament, which holds two sessions
each year, has been on a break since June. In a
related development, Kurdish officials said Jordan
would open a diplomatic delegation in the Kurdistan
region by 2011, the news agency reported. The
announcement came after a visit by a Jordanian
diplomatic delegation to the largely Kurdish city of
Erbil. Many Kurds hope to see a fully independent
Kurdistan in the future, but other ethnic groups
would like the territory to remain part of Iraq. DPA
