German Consulate to issue visas in Erbil,
Kurdistan region 'Iraq', — The Deputy for German
Economic Minister and the Representative of German
Consulate in Erbil, held a press conference on May
27 in Erbil, shedding light on some common issues
between Germany and Kurdistan Region.
“We are engaged in talks with the Kurdistan Regional
Government (KRG) over the issue of deporting
(Kurdish) refugees (in Germany) to get at a
breakthrough”, said Dr. Jörg Grotjohan, the
Representative of German Consul in Erbil.
“We are lagging far behind our work for issuing
visas for the Kurdish citizens due to setting up our
consulate office”, he argued, adding “If we don’t
encounter further problems, we may deal out some
visas by the next month”.
However, there are some
technical issues which should be set ahead of the
work, according to Dr. Jörg Grotjohan.
“Depending on some political and economical
principles we established our office for relations,
industry and trade in Kurdistan Region as we enjoy a

Karl Ernest Brauner, the German Minister of
Economy’s Deputy for Foreign Trade and Investment.
Kurdistan is quite different from Iraq with respect
to its security and moderate policy, argued Ernest,
adding the region demands investment in all fields,
providing a big opportunity for settling a business.
“Kurdistan is now autonomous over deciding for its
own natural resources”, Ernest added, underlying “We

“We began working on this office since the beginning
of this year and I will leave for Germany for a
fortnight duration to attract the German investors
to Kurdistan Region”.
