Christian organizations to
operate in Kurdistan
Sulaimaniyah: After a visit to turkey and Britain,
the Kurdistan Regional Government's (KRG) Ministry
of Endowments and Religious Affairs has licensed
Christian organizations from the two countries to
work in Kurdistan to help the Christian refugees of
Iraq. The organizations had earlier requested
permits from the Ministry to aid the Christians who
had fled their homes in the various parts of Iraq
due to the security situations to seek shelter in
Kurdistan region, according to Mariwan Naqshbandi,
press secretary of the ministry. A committee of the
ministry had visited Turkey and Britain to closely
examine the works and aims of the organizations
before licensing them, he said. Naqshbandi voiced
concern over the claims of some Christians who had
converted into Christianity after 1991 had reported
to organizations about KRG practicing oppression and
violence against them. He said they were preparing a
report about those converts to the Minister of
Endowments and also to the Council of Ministers for
investigations about their claims. aknews com
