Sulaimaniyah: Astronaut William Shepherd is the
guest speaker for a symposium to be held on Monday
(April 26) at the U.S. University in Sulaimaniyah.
“Shepherd will speak about his experience, as he
travelled four times to outer space,” a source from
the university told Aswat al-Iraq news agency on
Sunday. The source noted that Shepherd spent 159

Another Turkish pop artist
to visit Kurdistan
A Turkish company is busy with getting many top
artists from Turkey to perform in the Iraqi
Kurdistan region. It’s expected that the pop artist
Ismail YK will visit Kurdistan, who is very popular
among the youth. Zafer Azmanoglu of the company
Guloglu told Rudaw that the Turkish pop singer will
soon visit Erbil (Hewler). “We have proposed him
this, and he accepted it.” Ismail YK is one of
the new Turkish artist that is popular in Iraqi
Kurdistan. An older name, Ibrahim Tatlises, recently
visited Kurdistan. Guloglu just opened an office in
Erbil, but promises to get more artists from Turkey
to Kurdistan. Ismail YK is known in Turkey for his
songs like Bombabomba.com, Sappur Suppur and also
has a song about the social network website Facebook.

Storm damages parts of
electricity sector in Kurdistan
Erbil: Speaker of the Kurdistan Regional Government
(KRG) – Ministry of Electricity, has announced that
the Wednesday evening storm in Erbil city has caused
damages to 150 electric feeders. "Around 150
electrical feeders transmitting power to Erbil
downtown, fell yesterday evening due to storms. But
the damages are now under repair process," Diyar
Baban said. Fortunately, the rainfall and the storm
did not damage the electric stations and poles, but
the electricity disruption on Thursday night was due
to the damages of some electrical feeders, Baban
said. "Our teams have started fixing the feeders
everywhere and they're still have around 40 feeders
to fix, he added. Wednesday evening around 8p.m.

Iraq panel postpones manual
votes recount
Iraq’s panel postponed the recount of votes in
Nineveh and Kirkuk till May 10. The court reviewing
contests decided to delay the announcement of
contests results and called to recount votes in Al
Huwaija for more accuracy, a source from Kurdistan
Alliance reported. Kurdistan Alliance affirmed that
it has submitted on Tuesday new documents and
evidence on elections violations. The court is
expected to recount votes in these regions, the
Alliance noted. The Kurdish party has removed its
contests in Mosul from the Supreme Court and kept on
Kirkuk elections contests, the source added.
