SULAIMANIYAH,
Kurdistan region 'Iraq', — Gorran and Kurdistan
Islamic union list are against the idea of a Kurd
becoming an Iraqi president and they believe that
Parliament speaker's post is the better option.
Opposition forces outside Kurdistan Democratic Party
"KDP" and Patriotic Union of Kurdistan "PUK" circle
feel that if the president doesn't have the power to
veto any legislation, it won't have any use for the
Kurds.
A member of KIU political bureau Dr. Muhammad Ahmed
believes for Kurds it's better to get parliament
speaker's post.
"Right now for Kurds Parliament speaker is more
important than presidency post; because it's
believed that president doesn't have the authority
to veto any legislation, it's only symbolic post,"
he said.
