Nechirvan Barzani could fix the Kurdistan
university

Kurdistan region 'Iraq', — Students hope that the
former Kurdish PM Nechirvan Barzani is going to
solve management problems in the Kurdistan
University – Hawler (UKH). Ari Aziz Manshi (20) says
that now that Nechirvan Barzani is the chancellor,
it will be better. "When he becomes the chancellor
people will fear him because he is a powerful
person, so it won't be easy to make problems then."
On 15 March Nechirvan Barzani became the chancellor
and he is one of the founders of the university in
2005. The University doesn't charge students, but
only accepts students, based on their grading level.
Chairman of Kurdistan University Dr. Shafiq Qazzaz
said that the new chancellor is known among students
as a 'cool guy'. He was warmly welcomed with
applause and even kissed by a fan.

Nechirvan Barzani
emphasized the importance of development and
education and expressed his full commitment to the
university. "We made a lot of progress and we need
to keep working on this." The former PM also said
Kurdistan needs to improve its education system.
"These students will be the new leaders in the
future and will work to rebuild the country."
Student Abdulmajid Gli (21) said it was the first
time in three years that Nechirvan Barzani visited
the university. Bawar Saidi (28) said he was happy
to see him. "It makes it more prestigious and will
result in more support."
Ari Aziz Manshi (20) said it will also create a
better reputation. "For instance with the
International Crisis Group - all the heads are
former presidents and PMs." Manshi also said it will

university had two rectors before, but there were
many problems. "The university had also problems in
the administration. Since Nechirvan Barzani is a
high official, making problems would be less easy.
The students feel more secure and stable now."
According Sara Salahhadin it’s the beginning of a
new era. "We have faced many difficulties and
problems, different rectors came and go. But from
now on, with the wisdom and guidance of mr.
Nechirvan Barzani and the help of teachers, staff
and students, we will try to make a better change."
She also says its better that Nechirvan Barzani is
famous. "Before, the chancellor wasn't famous
enough, when he became the chancellor it gave us
legitimacy and made the students more confident
about their future."
