legislative term on Sat.
Erbil: The Parliament of Iraq’s Kurdistan region
will start its new legislative term this Saturday,
according to the web site of the Parliament.
“Speaker Kamal Kirkuki has called on Kurdistan’s 111
parliamentarians to attend the opening session…,”

Erbil Castle archeological
– UNESCO
Erbil: Erbil Castle will be temporarily considered
an international archeological site, said the United
Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural
Organization (UNESCO). “We will start rehabilitating
the site,” Mohammmed Jaleed, UNESCO director in
Iraq, said in a press conference in Erbil on
Tuesday. He said that the rehabilitation process
will take three years. “The castle will then become
an international archeological site permanently,”
Jaleed said. Iraqi Kurdistan regional cabinet has
allocated around $13 million to rehabilitate the

Preliminary results to be
announced in 2 days – official
Erbil: The counting votes of the parliamentary
elections in Arbil is about to finish and the
preliminary results will be announced in the coming
two days, director of the Arbil office of the
Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) said on
Wednesday. “The counting process is about to finish
and the current results indicate the Kurdistan
Alliance list’s win by 65% in Erbil,” Hindreen
Mohammad told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.
Special Representative of the Secretary General for
Iraq (SRSG), Ad Melkert, had said earlier that the
preliminary results of the elections will be

Kurdish president, U.S.
envoy tackle mutual ties
Erbil: President of Iraq’s Kurdistan region Massoud
Barzani has discussed with the U.S. ambassador to
the country bilateral relations with Iraq on the one
hand, and with the United States on the other. On
Wednesday, Barzani received in Erbil’s Salah al-Din
the U.S. ambassador to Iraq, Christopher Hill, and
his accompanying delegation, according to a
statement received by Aswat al-Iraq news agency. The
two officials have also discussed the outcome of
Barzani's recent visit to the United States, the
