Security forces arrest
dealers of archeological sites
Erbil: Security forces arrest four people in Erbil
who were about to take 30 ancient pieces of work
outside Kurdistan Region for trade purposes.
Reportedly, the pieces date back to 2000 years ago.
Source from Erbil Security Directorate confirms the
report and says that the arrested people are under
investigation. The same source adds that there are
problems concerning the case as there is not a
specific department to deal with problems relevant
to archeological sites so the drugs department took

Women circumcision still
exists in Kurdistan Region
Despite passing of seven years since announcement of
a campaign by UN to nullify number of women
circumcision cases in the world, the appearance
still exists in Kurdistan Region. Kurdistan Regional
Government (KRG) has not officially admitted to the
high rate of the case. According to an empirical
research by a German organization (Wadi), women
circumcision is widespread in Kurdistan Region and
the rate of it is 72 per cent, but it differs from
an area to another one. The research was publicized

Angry teachers lash into
election commission
Erbil: Teachers in Erbil voice protest against
election commission for not including their names as
monitors in polling stations during the next Iraqi
parliamentary election. The teachers say that
commission designated illiterate people to take care
of polling boxes during those elections. Meanwhile,
head of Independent High Electoral Commission Erbil
office Handren Muhammad vows to follow up the case
and find about whether those people have
certificates or not and in case of a negative
outcome, the commission will replace them by
literate people and those who hold academic

$2m for new projects in
Erbil
The Erbil Governor Nawzad Hadi on Monday visited a number of projects
currently under construction in the southwest of the
province, at a total cost of more than $2 million.
“The projects are being executed by local firms,”
Hamza Hamid, the Erbil provincial media director,
told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. Gov. Hadi also
discussed a number of future projects with local
residents and officials during the visit, according
to Hamid. Erbil is the capital city of the Iraqi

election likely to be delayed: Dr Mahmoud
The forthcoming Iraqi parliamentary election might
be postponed for an indefinite time, if the appeal
panel doesn’t conclude its works, Dr. Mahmoud Osman
Iraqi Lawmaker from the Kurdistan Alliance Bloc
stated during a phone call to PUKmedia com.
“Secret plan to undermine
Kurdistan region”
A plan is underway to use hard drugs among Kurdish
youth and its intellectuals, says a security
official from Iraqi Kurdistan. The head of drug
prevention department in Sulaimaniyah security
directory Brigadier Jalal Amin Bag revealed there is
a plan to use drugs against the Kurdish generation.
"The main alternative in achieving this plan is to
spread drugs among university students and Kurdish
intellectuals, but thankfully so far we have prevent
it the plan to work", said the Kurdish brigadier,
without saying who is behind it. According to some
figures, Sulaimaniyah province because of the wide
and long border with Iran, it has the most drug
users in KRG. Famous Kurdish poet and writer Sherko
Bekas thinks there is a "dangerous" plan underway to
weaken Kurdistan region's people. "A war has started
against our nation by using drugs," Bekas said. "So
far I haven't seen anything to prove that it's been
spread among our intellectuals, but I'm sure it will
happen", he added. He also warned the government
should do more to protect the youths. "The living
standard should be better for the people; especially
the youths and we also should tighten our border
with western Kurdistan [Iran]," the experience poet

Kurdish singer Haco: I’m
prepared to go to TRT-6
The famous Kurdish artist Ciwan Haco said he is
ready to perform on the Kurdish channel TRT-6, which
is founded by the Turkish government he said in an
interview with Taraf journalist Amberin Zaman.
When TRT-6 was founded last year, he didn’t support
the channel, despite attempts of the gov’t to get
his support and from Siwan Perwer. Both Haco and
Perwer afterwards performed on pro-PKK concerts.
Haco said he is ready to perform for peace and if
the situation gets better in Turkey. “If there is a
possibility for peace, why shouldn’t I perform
there?” The Kurdish singer is not scared if
the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) is against this.
“It doesn’t interest me, if they like it or not.
Look, when I was young, I was full of craziness and
song very radical songs. I’ve brought attention to
the suppression and injustice of Kurds. The search
for more rights to Kurds shall and must continue.
But there is not only the road of the gun, war and

Kurdish language course
makes way in US
Nashville: The Middle East Center at Middle
Tennessee State University in Nashville, plans to
offer Kurdish language courses in the Fall 2010
semester, becoming a niche market for the
university. The Nashville metropolitan area is home
to the largest Kurdish population in the country.
The department has also been trying to bring an
instructor from the University of Duhok in Iraq to
teach the courses. The goal of the university is to
preserve the Kurdish language in the US for the
Kurdish diaspora and the foreign languages program
through additional founding. A full topic in Middle
Eastern studies course is currently underway, and at
least half of those students are expected to
register for the Kurdish language courses this fall.
In 2000, the census estimated that roughly 11,000
people of Kurdish descent lived in the Nashville
metropolitan area. The US armed forces also received
Kurdish language courses for their deployment in

Germany's 2nd largest
carrier now flies to Kurdistan
Erbil – On 6th February 2010 Germany’s second
largest airline will be flying from Munich to the
Kurdish capital Erbil in Iraqi Kurdistan for the
first time. The Boeing 737-800 with flight number
AB3602 will take off from Munich airport at 20:30
hours. There will be connecting flights from Berlin,
Düsseldorf and Hamburg. The service to Iraq’s
Kurdistan will initially alternate between Erbil and
Sulaimaniyah airports. The plan is to increase the
frequency of flights from summer 2010 onwards. The
