Former Kurdish PM to run the office of Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) deputy leader

KDP President Massoud Barzani designates former Kurdish PM Nechirvan Barzani for the post of KDP deputy leader and grants him full authority. Source inside KDP reaffirms the report and says Barzani will maintain his position until next party's convention. Hawlati Newspaper.

Opposition criticizes parliament for hastiness in passing 2010 budget

Kurdistan Region opposition says government has put pressure on parliament to approve 2010 budget quickly and regard the move as politically motivated. Change List MP Adnan Uthman calls on parliament Finance Committee to debate on the budget and pay enough attention to opposition concerns. Meanwhile some MPs are resolute on their demand to summon Finance Minister to parliament and question him about ambiguity of Kurdistan Region income figures and sources. Hawlati Newspaper

Kurdistan Bloc to take final stand on appeal panel’s decision

In reaction to the appeal panel’s decision that allows banned candidates to run in the upcoming general elections in Iraq, Ala Talabani Iraqi Lawmaker from the Kurdistan Alliance Bloc (KAB) remarked that the KAB is against participation of the Baathists in the March election for suspected ties to Saddam Hussein's regime. Regarding its final stance on the situation, the Kurdistan Alliances Bloc is scheduled to hold a meeting on Sunday morning prior to the urgent session of the Iraqi Parliament, she added in a statement to Sawa Radio.

KRG: We do not support the Iranian opposition

Erbil: The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has rejected reports that they have approved an article in the region's budget law so that they can give financial support to Iranian Kurdish opposition parties. A few days ago, an Iranian website published a report about KRG authorities giving money to Iranian Kurdish Parties, but both Kurdish parliament speaker and the KRG spokesman rejected those allegations. KRG spokesman Kawa Mahmmud regarding this matter confirmed that those reports are far from the truth and he rejected those rumors that KRG has financially supported Kurdish Iranian Parties. "It's ploy from Islamic republic to shell Kurdistan region, that's why we ask central government to try and stop the Iranian bombardment on our region", said the KRG spokesman...Rudaw net

First Erbil encyclopedia inaugurated

On Saturday, Feb 6, the first Erbil Encyclopedia has been inaugurated in a ceremony which was supervised by PUK Deputy Secretary-General Kosrat Rasul Ali, and in the presence of members of PUK politburo, Erbil Governor as well as a number of political and intellectual figures. It’s worth mentioning, the Encyclopedia contains over 50000 pages that provide comprehensive summaries on history, geography, art, culture and so many other fields.
