Men are physically stronger than women. Since the
existence of humans, men have been dominant over
women. When a woman gives birth to a child, she is
physically weak and she is needed to nurture the
human child. This is different from other young
mammals; the human baby needs care for a much longer
period of time before it can take care of itself.
This disadvantage makes women dependent on men for
their survival. Men have taken advantage of women
for thousands of years, using them, as they use
everything else, for their existence and enjoyment.
Men never allowed women to be equal partners in the
family. For example, the child will take father’s
family name, even though a man and a woman equally
created that child. Most of the religions, the
source of laws, are established by men. A woman’s
right to be an equal partner has never existed; men
have treated women very badly throughout history.
Vashti now a day you are symbol of women resistance
in the world. The women in world are demanding
equality with man. In many nations they are equal
now but your daughters in Iranian land are
subjugated by the Arab nomadic rule in Iran today.
Where are your spirit your daughters, the Iranian
women are chained by children of Ali ibn Abi Talib
who butchered your children now we are worshiping
him and his children? The Iranian women’s are
desperately looking for your spirit to comfort them.
The story started over again the children of Saad
ibn Abī Waqqās under the command of Umar ibn al-Khattab
are here ruling them in the name of Islamic
religions. They are terrifying your daughters once
more by raping them like before.
King of Kings Astyages of Median Empire became drunk
at his New Year (Newroz or Nawruj) celebration. He
wanted his wife Queen Vashti to dance for him and
his guests to show her beauty. Queen Vashti said, “I
am not your servant. I am your wife and Queen of the
Median Empire. How dare you treat me in this way,
trying to humiliate me?”
I, General Harpagus, commanding General of Median
Army was very disappointed as soon as heard the
Emperor call out his request. I knew Queen Vashti
from childhood and understood she would not take his
orders. She was the mother of Cyaxares II, the only
son of Astyages and she was our relative by blood.
The servant returned and bowed to the King of Kings,
saying in front of the kings and dignitaries that
Queen Vashti refused the order. She said, “I am the
Queen of the Media Empire and an equal partner of
Emperor Astyages; I am neither dancer nor his
servant to obey such an order.” Emperor Astyages was
depressed and disappointed and committed himself to
punish Queen Vashti immediately.
I felt very sorry for Vashti and Astyages; I
believed that Astyages was possessed by Ahrimen. Why
could he even think of such a thing; but I could not
interfere in the matter.
After the festival was over King of Kings Astyages
called a meeting, and he said, “What kind of
punishment does my wife deserves for refusing to
obey the King of Kings’ order. Each came up with a
suggestion for punishment, but Haman Agagite said
the matter is between you and your wife. It will
affect the entire median Empire. From now on a wife
will not listen to her husband because she will want
to emulate Queen Vashti. He suggested that she
should be executed.
I interfered then and asked the King of Kings,
before making a decision that important, to please
take a few days to think about it. Astyages accepted
my request. Later I met with him alone and ask him
to save her life because her death will affect the
unity of our Median people. I reminded him of his
father request to preserve that unity. His
punishment for her was that she is no longer had
title of Queen and she must be put under house
arrest for life in Ecbatana palace.
The life of Vashti affected her son, Cyaxares II. He
was constantly depressed over his mother’s
situation, and he was not at all ambitious to take
over after his father’s death. Emperor Astyages was
married to Queen Aryenis for political reasons; from
that marriage he had a daughter named of Mandane,
but that did not stop him from looking for a new
Queen to replace Queen Vashti.
He asked his advisers to find him a new Queen. Haman
Agagite suggested that the King of Kings should
interview hundreds of virgins and pick one to be his
Queen. He accepted the advice and ordered Haman
Agagite to implement the assignment. Haman Agagite
sent out his forces seeking beautiful young and
virgin girls in the region and bringing them to the
palace. He appointed a group of servants to pick
girls for beauty and wisdom, girls who could be the
nations’ Queen. They had to test each girl after she
was accepted by the committee; she has to undergo
training for few months before meeting the King of
Kings.
It is true Queen Vashti was hurt by standing up for
her rights. In reality her stand should be
recognized by women as the turning point defining
the relationship between men and women as equal
partners in their family, no longer a master and
slave relationship.
Queen Vashti became a symbol for women’s resistance.
She said, “Some day, women will be equal to men. I
am not sorry for what I did. The day will come that
women do not need a man’s financial support because
they can work and produce like men. The job to raise
a child then does not need a man’s work and his
support. Then women can be free from men’s dominance
and have a marriage as an equal partner with the
man,www.ekurd.netenjoying
each other’s company within family life. The
religions and laws will change to treat women and
men equally.” She then said, “I do not believe that
Auramazdâha (God) created women to serve men. The
laws are made by men, not our creator.”
Queen Vashti’s determinations and courage will be
recorded in history. She will be the symbol for
women’s liberation and equality with men. She said
once, if men and women understand each other’s
values, the family will flourish and children will
have a better life. After all, the man and woman
should be equal partners without allowing either of
them to claim superiority over the other. Marriages
are just contracts for sharing life together. When
that contract is understood by both, then conflicts
like hers would never be possible.
This article is from my upcoming books dedicated
to the women in the world. Especially women from old
Iranian Empires territory from Pakistan to Turkey
and from Kurdistan to former Soviet Union countries.
The situations of your existence under the Arabic
Nomadic cultural laws are unbearable for you. May
almighty God help you for your suffering? The God
never said the women have to be treated like that;
we are witnessing in today Iran and Kurdistan of Mr.
Massoud and Mr. Jalal.
Have hope for brighter day. Read about Kurdish
civilizations of 2500 years ago and see you
foremother stand against the unjust practice by man.
Long live to you oh our mothers and sisters.
