Kidderminster, UK, — Firefighters battled a
blaze at a car wash in Kidderminster last night that
caused thousands of pounds worth of damage and
spread to a nearby carpet warehouse.
The fire at a temporary building in Broad Street
started at about 10.05pm and spread to two
warehouses nearby, including one leased to Victoria
Carpets.
Two fire crews from Kidderminster, one from Bewdley
and one from Stourbridge attended and the road was
closed for more than two hours while the fire was
put out.
Heman Fatah, an Iraqi Kurd,www.ekurd.net
who founded Valeting
Centre Hand Car Wash and is a friend and adviser of
the current owner, said the temporary building had
been used as an office.

He explained that it
contained expensive car washing equipment along with
a television and sofa and altogether would cost more
than L6,000 to replace.
He added: “I feel really bad. It is very upsetting.
Business was not good beforehand and this could make
things worse.”
He said that on a good weekend the car wash could
attract between 30 to 40 customers while on a quiet
day this could be down to three or four.
Mr Fatah, originally from Kurdistan but now living
in Wolverhampton, added: “The business will be able
to continue but it will be difficult.”
Brinley Tyrrell, owner of Churchfields Business
Park, said damage to the warehouses had been
“miniscule” due to the quick response of Hereford
and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service.
He explained: “The damage was miniscule. It could
have been much more serious but thankfully the fire
brigade were here in minutes and did the job
brilliantly.
“They have prevented what could have been a major
financial disaster.”
Fire investigators have been visiting the site to
determine the cause of the blaze.
