Conf. on Investment Law in
Kurdistan, soon
The Investment Commission in Iraq’s Kurdistan region
will hold a conference to discuss amendments to the
Investment Law, according to the web site of the
regional government. “The conference will be held in
cooperation with a Lebanese company…,” the web site
quoted an official from the commission, Haydar
Mustafa, as saying. The law was issued three years
ago, Mustafa noted, arguing that amendments are
necessary to cope with the developments in the
international investment climate.
Turkish channel to open
office in Kurdistan Region
An office of a Turkish channel is expected to be
inaugurated in Erbil province, and Kurdistan
Regional Government supports this move. Judge Shaker
Rozh Bayani Chief of Staff in the KRG Ministry of
Culture told PUKmedia, “Aiming to transmit
commercial and cultural activities in Kurdistan
Region, TRT Turk channel representative has recently
visited the ministry of culture to get permission.”
This came in the framework of the steps that Turkish
Government wants to improve its political, cultural
and economic ties with Kurdistan Region and to
inform about developments in the region, he added.
Halabja district
commissioner is accused of corruption
A well-informed source told PUKmedia website “On
August 27th 2009, the judge of Halabja Town issued
an arrest warrant against Fuad Salih Ridha, the
district commissioner of Halabja and one of the
accountants for peculation and forgery crimes. “The
district commissioner has run away and disappeared
before being arrested by the security forces. The
arresting warrant was issued according to the
request of the financial control committee after
discovering a peculation process by Ridha and one of
the accountants”, the source added.
Unknown gunmen wound
civilian in Erbil
Unknown gunmen on Monday opened fire on a civilian
in central Erbil, said a source from the city’s
police. “The gunmen were driving an SUV with no
plates,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.
“The incident took place near the local authority’s
building,” he said. The source pointed out that the
gunmen were able to escape to an unknown place,
while the wounded man was admitted to hospital.

Iraq-Turkey railroad to be
inaugurated on Sept. 1
The Iraqi ministry of transportation announced in a
press statement that the inauguration of the
Iraqi-Turkish dry channel through a new railroad
will be on Monday September 1st, 2009. “This project
is considered an important step towards connecting
Iraq with the world. It offers a chance to transfer
goods and grains from Europe to the Mediterranean
Sea, Arab Gulf and eastern Asia with suitable
amounts and a secure way”, the ministry said in its
statement. This project followed the inauguration of
the Iraqi-Syrian dry channel in June 1st 2009, which
is a railroad connecting between the Mediterranean
Sea and Arab Gulf.
