Mass grave found in Erbil
The Kurdistan Regional Minister for Martyr Affairs,
Janar Saad Abdullah, said Monday that a mass grave
was found in western Erbil city. She said that the
grave was found on a plot of land where a new
residential compound is being constructed. “The
victims could have been killed by the former
regime,” Abdullah said in a press conference in
Erbil. “The former Iraqi army used to use the land
as a camp,” she said.
Cop killed by father near
Sulaimaniyah
The emergency department in Klar Hospital on
Thursday received a body belonging to a young man
who had been shot down by his father. “The body,
which belongs to a young man in his 20s, bears signs
of gunshot wounds,” a cleric from the hospital,
Jawameer Ahmed, told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.
Meanwhile, a local police source said that the young
man was killed by his father, who gave himself up to
the police immediately after the crime. The source
did not reveal the motivations behind the killing,
adding that an investigation is currently underway
President Barzani meets
with Turkmen, Christian parliamentary blocs
The President of Kurdistan Region Massoud Barzani
met with the Turkmen and Christian political blocs
that had participated and won in the parliamentary
elections of Kurdistan region in Salahaddin Resort,
Erbil Province. This meeting is part of the
continuous meetings between President Barzani and
the parliamentary blocs to discuss the mechanisms of
forming the new cabinet in Kurdistan region, the
stance towards the coming Iraqi parliamentary
elections and other different issues. The
attendances expressed their ideas and opinions
regarding the coming cabinet.
700 tourists to visit
Kurdistan’s religious places
Erbil: Hundreds of European tourists are expected to
flow to Kurdistan region in October to visit the
religious places and shrines, a source in the
ministry of endowments and religious affairs said.
The ministry’s spokesman Mariwan Naqshbandi said via
a German tourist agency the religious tourism
project was started in Kurdistan region. The agency
has arranged to bring 700 European tourists from 8
different countries to visit the religious places
and shrines in Kurdistan region, Naqshbandi said. It
is likely that a considerable number of the tourists
will be Yazidis and visit Lalesh temple, some of
them are Christians and will visit Dohuk religious
places. While the Muslim tourists will visit Erbil
city’s Sultan Muzaffar, Shekhi Choli minaret and
Jalil Khayat Mosque, the great mosque of Erbil, plus
Kak Ahmedi Sheikh shrine in Slemani and other places
in Hawraman and Byara shrines, according to
Naqshbandi...
Erbil stadium gets
renovated
The Erbil stadium is in its final stage of
renovation to get to conform to world standards of
stadiums. After the Iraqi Football Olympic Committee
(IFOC) decided that all the important matches in
Iraq should be held in the Erbil stadium, the
Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) decided to
dedicate US$2 million to renovate the stadium,
deputy Erbil governor, Tahir Abdullah, said. The
stadium is expected to be ready by next month for
the new Iraqi Premier League season, Abdullah said.
Also a big screen is planned to be installed outside
the stadium to display the matches, according to
Abdullah.
The Erbil stadium was first restored in 2007, during
which 20 thousand seats were added to the stadium,
Tahir concluded.
