ERBIL-Hewlêr,
Kurdistan region 'Iraq', —
Bahrain’s national carrier, Gulf Air, will add Erbil
to its extensive network of destinations, starting
the end of September, 2009. Erbil is the capital
city of the Iraqi Kurdistan region.
"The inclusion of Iraq to our regional network makes
absolute sense both geographically and economically.
There is a clear demand for a direct service from
Bahrain and we have also ensured that our Iraq
service will complement our feeder services from
Europe and in particular London, which will enable
us to capture intercontinental traffic with
passengers having less than two hour connections via
our Bahrain hub." This is according to Samer
Majali, Gulf Air’s CEO, in a press release on their
website. |

Bahrain’s national carrier, Gulf Air, will add Erbil
to its extensive network of destinations, starting
the end of September, 2009. |
Starting September 1st, 2009, Gulf Air will fly five
times weekly to Iraq’s capital, Baghdad. Besides
Erbil, the Holy City of Najaf will also be added to
their network at the end of September, 2009. The
increase in Bahraini Shiite pilgrims, numbering
25,000, to Najaf is the main reason for Gulf Air to
start the service to the city.
“The airline is also looking to start services to
two more destinations in Iraq before the end of the
year”, said another press release on their website.
Gulf Air will be the first national carrier from the
Gulf Region to start services to Erbil and the rest
of Iraq. Erbil International Airport already
receives Austrian Airlines,www.ekurd.net

carriers.
