Opening Peshrow Tunnel in
Sulaimaniyah
In the presence of Iraqi deputy premier Dr. Barham
Salih, KRG deputy premier Emad Ahmed, Iranian
ambassador in Iraq Hassan Kadhemi Qomi and a number
of officials and citizens, the project of Peshrow
Strategic Tunnel was opened in Azmar Mountain to the
north of Sulaimaniyah City. The tunnel was opened
officially by the daughter of the late Engineer
Peshrow, Dr. Barham Salih, Emad Ahmed and the
audience. The project was carried out by KRG
ministry of reconstruction and housing in
cooperation with the Iranian ICG Company. The tunnel
is 2389m long, 8.5m width and 7.65m height and cost
$18.200.000. The project was started in January
10th, 2005 and finished in November 2008. It
decreases the distance of 15km mountainous road into
8 km straight road.
Women’s Futsal championship
to start soon in Kurdistan:

The female futsal championship will start on 15
July, the Kurdistan Region’s Football Federation
announced Thursday. The championship includes futsal
teams from across the Kurdistan Region including
Kirkuk and fierce competitions are expected, the
Duhok head of the federation Farzad M. Ali said. The
federation will soon organize men’s futsal
championship in Sulaimaniyah and Erbil, Farzad
added. Futsal is played in closed halls and each
team consists of five players. FIFA organized the
first futsal championship in 1989. Past prolific
winners include Brazil and Spain.
Kurdistan and Zagros TV
interview Kosrat Rasul
Both Kurdistan and Zagros TV Satellite channels
interviewed Kosrat Rasul who is the Deputy Secretary
General of PUK and Vice President of Kurdistan
Region. During the interview, Kosrat Rasul exposed a
lot of significant issues in all aspects related to
the Presidential and Legislative elections of
Kurdistan Region scheduled to be taken place on July
25.
No cholera cases in
Kurdistan region this year: AK
Kurdistan region’s ministry of health has taken
strict measures to prevent the spread of cholera in
Kurdistan region, and so far no cases have been
identified, the health minister said. “Since March
2009, we have had medical teams who visit all the
territories of the region and conduct medical checks
for any possible cholera cases” Zryan Osman told
AKnews. Osman said they have measures to face the
disease such as distributing clean water in the
neighborhoods where there is water crisis, plus
distributing chlorine on them to purify their
drinking water. And water samples are consistently
taken from the restaurants and other public places
for examination.
The minister voiced fear over the spread of the
disease in Chamchamal, Piramagroun, Garmyan and
Khurmal, as they do not have enough clean drinking
water. For his part, director of the contagious
diseases division in the ministry of Health, Khalis
Qadir, told AKnews that: “no cholera cases have been
recorded in Kurdistan region.” There were 2 cases in
2008, Qadir said. But in 2007, some 4 thousand
people were infected with the disease, he concluded.
