SULAIMANIYAH,
Kurdistan region 'Iraq', —The
Change List has filed at least 100 lawsuits against
the Kurdistani List on alleged election violations
while the latter has filed 45 lawsuits since the
election campaigns began more than two week ago.
Rudaw has learned that most of the alleged
violations have occurred in the Sulaimaniyah
province where the race is very close.
“The violations of the “Change” list
are clear,” Sozan Shahab, spokesperson of the
Kurdistani List told Rudaw. “They have created a
mess in Sulaimaniyah city. The youth of the Change
List must do (election) campaigns in a civilized
manner.”
In recent days scenes of traffic jams at night and
posters of different lists have been torn.
Shahab said that her list has filed 45 lawsuits
against the Change List without providing details on
the cases.
Adnan Osman, a candidate for the Change List,
rejected the accusation of the Kurdistani List, “The
Change List has not committed any legal violations
and it has worked within the rules of the (Election)
Commission,” he said. “Whatever is said is
fabricated.”
The Change List has filed at least 100 lawsuits
against the Kurdistani List, a source from the
Change List told Rudaw.
Last week the satellite channels of the Kurdistan
Democratic Party (KDP) and the Patriotic Union of
Kurdistan (PUK) aired footage of young people,www.ekurd.net
wearing shirts of the Change List, burning the flags
of Kurdistan and the Kurdistani List and cursing
Islam. The Change List issued a statement saying
that the footage was staged and that the Kurdistani
List was responsible for it, “The young people had
been taken by the PUK office (in Sulaimaniyah) to
Salem street accompanied by crews of the two
satellite channels so that they can film them while
saying nasty things against people and the holy
religion of Islam,” the statement said.
Tahir Mohamed Amin,www.ekurd.net
director of the Iraq’s Independent High Electoral
Commission in Sulaimaniyah, said that some of the
lawsuits might be rejected because of the lack of
evidence, “the lists have filed many lawsuits
against each other and we are passing them to
relevant agencies.”
