ERBIL-Hewlęr, Kurdistan region 'Iraq', —
Women will get at least 37 seats of the parliament
in the July elections, based on a law that sets a 30
percent quota in the Kurdistan Parliament. Roughly
169 women are nominated by the lists that are
competing for the 100 seats.
According to the elections laws every third name of
a list must be a woman candidate.
Handren Muhammad, head of the Hawler office of the
High Electoral Commission in Iraq, told Rudaw that
507 candidates are competing for in the
parliamentary elections that are due to be held on
July 25.
