Nawshirwan Mustafa, prominent former PUK leader and
co-founder of the PUK party. |
"Some of the lawsuits
have been filed on behalf of people who have been
fired from their jobs,” the lawyer said. "According
to the law a government employee cannot be fired
without justification. What are being done now are
violations of the rights of those people.” In recent
week some people have claimed that they have been
fired from their jobs because of their support for
the Change List.
The lawyer told Rudaw that some of the lawsuits have
been filed because PUK has violated the election
laws by launching election campaign before the
official date that has been set by the election
commission. Today is the official starting date for
the election campaign.
The lawyer also said that copies of the filed
lawsuits have been sent to election commission, the
United Nations, and the European Union.
A source from PUK rejected the lawsuits saying that
the party has not violated any laws. Regarding the
allegations that government employees have been
fired because of their support for the Change List,
the PUK source categorically rejected the
accusations.
“We have not forestalled any side. We have not
committed any violations and the files are not
legal,” Shorsh Ismail, the chairman of the Elections
Office of PUK, told Rudaw.
"In the anniversary of PUK's foundation, in giving
his speech, Talabani mentioned that Massoud Barzani
is the nominee of the Kurditani List (PUK and KDP
list) for the presidency of Kurdistan Region. But
this is giving information and it should not be
taken for the elections campaign,” Ismail added.
Change List is mainly composed of leading members of
PUK who have left the party and some independent
figures to participate in the July 25 parliamentary
elections.
Nawshirwan Mustafa, a former deputy leader and co-founder of PUK plans to head a political
group of independents called "Change" in the
region's upcoming parliamentary elections. He left Patriotic Union of
