A statement from Dr. Barham Saleh over the
recent internal developments inside PUK

SULAIMANIYAH, Kurdistan region 'Iraq', —
Deputy Secretary-General of the Patriotic Union of
Kurdistan (PUK), and Iraq's deputy prime minister
Dr. Barham Ahmed Saleh made a statement on the
recent internal developments which have taken place
within the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan Following is
the full text of the statement:
Several problems and different views prevail among
the ranks of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan for a
period.
These problems have been accumulated and left
unresolved, and we know that you: the families of
martyrs, veterans, and Loyal Peshmerga [Kurdish
armed forces] cadres; PUK members, and the people of
Kurdistan that you are keen that these problems to
be solved wisely in the interest of the masses of
Kurdistan and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan.

From this perspective I and my dear brother Kosrat
Rasul Ali, in consultation with a number of PUK
Political Bureau members, have prepared and made a
number of proposals and presented them to President
Talabani for resolving these internal problems of
the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, and the part of
PUK within the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).
These proposals originate from the core of the
reform project of Mam Jalal [Iraqi president Jalal
Talabani], and include ten points starting with
accelerating releasing the resolution about
recommendations of those committees which have been
formed for reformation inside the PUK, and ends with
elimination the phenomenon of giving positions to
relative of the officials.
It is clear that our proposals include other points,
related to reformation and reviewing the PUK
representatives in the KRG , offices and
organizational centers of the PUK as well as other
foundations,www.ekurd.netguaranteeing
financial transparency , reorganizing relationships
in general , reviewing the performance of the
officials, activating the foundations, organizing
the organizations including the PUK Political
Bureau, reviewing and organizing the system of
decision making inside the PUK Political Bureau
according to the PUK bylaw.
Our proposals include a main point, as well which is
returning the cadres who are cut off from the PUK
because of the internal problems or differences in
opinion. The project proposes mechanisms for dealing
with this issue through taking necessary steps
towards a general reconciliation inside the PUK. The
project includes an important point which is
improving the living standards of Peshmerga forces
and the families of the martyrs.
These proposals have been ratified by Mam Jalal,
Secretary-General of the Patriotic Union of
Kurdistan. Mam Jalal ordered his two deputies to
carry out these suggestions in coordination with and
help of the other PUK Political Bureau members
according to a meticulous mechanism. Thus, by the
support of President Mam Jalal , and the PUK
Political Bureau members we can carry out these
proposals, which have been always discussed inside
the PUK organizations, in due time.
Dear comrades, families and relatives of the
martyrs, and dear Peshmergas we all know that the
PUK have great historic tasks and responsibilities,
not only towards members of PUK , but towards the
experience of the Kurdistan region and people of
Kurdistan as well. By carrying out these suggestions
we would grant peace for souls of the martyrs,www.ekurd.netand
the people of Kurdistan, therefore we should launch
reform and modernization immediately and effectively
to renew and reform the PUK and improve the living
standards of the citizens, annihilating the
corruption phenomenon, the guarantee of rule of law
and the live of democracy.
Therefore in this stage and to achieve these goals
we must work together hand in hand, and we are sure
that by your presence , the spirit of sincerity ,
working together and with the experience of PUK and
its strugglers like Mr. Kosrat, there will be no
doubt of our success.
