$1.8m to improve tourism in
Erbil
Erbil: A local firm started executing a service
project that contributes to tourism in Erbil
province, with a total cost of around $1.8 million.
“The project is funded by the budget to develop
regions,” Nozad Hadi, the Erbil governor, told Aswat
al-Iraq news agency on Tuesday. He said that the
project is part of the plan to develop tourism in
Erbil.

47 injured in traffic accidents during Eid
In an exclusive statement to PUKmedia, the director
of Erbil Emergency Jalil Abdullah said:”at least 10
people were killed and 47 others injured in Erbil
due to various traffic accidents during the days of
Eid al-Adha.” Abdullah pointed out that the injuries
were different and included children, women, old and
young.
Erbil declares readiness
for dialogue with Baghdad to resolve differences
In a statement to Sawa Radio, the spokesman of
Kurdistan Regional Government Kawa Mahmud expressed
the readiness of his Government to hold a dialogue
with the Federal Government to resolve outstanding
issues between the two sides in accordance with the
Constitution. Bearing in mind, a number of issues
are still unresolved between the KRG and the Federal
Government and represent an obstacle for cooperation
and coordination between the two sides, including
oil and gas law, the Peshmerga Issue and the
disputed areas.
Archeological cooperation
between Italy and Kurdistan Region
Roberta Jonta, co-director of the Italian
cooperation project in a statement to PUKmedia said
that there is a project between the Italian- African
institute in Rome and Kurdistan Regional Government
in two towns in Sulaimani and Erbil provinces.
Swine flu infections reach
58 in Kurdistan Region
Doctor Khalis Qadir, head of transitional diseases
department and the spokesman of the ministry of
health in Kurdistan Regional Government in an
exclusive statement to PUKmedia said that the swine
flu (H1N1) infections in the Region reached to 58.
Dr. Qadir said that the Ministry of Health and
medical authorities took necessary measures to
confront and control this disease. Qadir asked the
citizens to follow medical instructions to stay away
from the disease and prevent its spread.
Spanish court judgment
about MKO should be local – MP
Erbil: Any court judgment in any country regarding
an issue related to another country requires the
second country’s approval for execution, a Kurdish
lawmaker said commenting on a judgment issued by a
Spanish court with respect to the operatives of the
People’s Mujahedin of Iran (MKO) exiled in Iraq.
“Executing the judgment requires an approval from
the Iraqi side,” Ahmed Anwar, a member of the Iraqi
parliament legal committee, told Aswat al-Iraq news
agency on Monday. He said that the judgment, which
considered the MKO elements in Iraq under the Genève
Convention, is a moral support only. “The court is
not international, and I question whether the
Spanish government would adopt this issue from the
legal and political standpoints,” Anwar said. He
said that the Iraqi government refuses to grant
asylum to MKO operatives in Iraq. “There are Iraqi-U.S.
discussions with respect to the MKO issue,” Anwar
said. The MKO operatives in Iraq, hosted in Ashraf
Camp in Diala province, oppose the current Iranian
regime, and have been in Iraqi since the 1980s.
80 firms in Iranian fair in
Duhok
Duhok: Eighty Iranian firms are participating in the
Iranian 3rd specialized fair in Duhuk, which opened
on Tuesday. “The fair was organized through the
Duhuk Chamber of Commerce,” Musheer Rzegi, the
Chamber’s deputy head, told Aswat al-Iraq news
agency. He said that for the first time the fair is
embracing heavy equipments.
KRG allocates $ 8 million
for Azmar Tunnel improvement
Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has allocated
the sum of $8 million to make improvement to the
Azmar tunnel near Sulaimaniyah province to increase
the lighting in the tunnel as well as to improve
central air system in addition to setting up the
system for firing of the tunnel.
Turkish company plans to
open 5-star hotel in Kurdistan
Erbil: As part of it’s expansion efforts,
Turkey-based Divan Hotels plans to open a 5-star
hotel here in the first half of 2011. The investment
is valued at $90 million reports Globest.com The
Divan Erbil will contain 146 guestrooms, 76 suites,
two presidential suites and four lofts. Additionally
the 484,000-square-foot project will have six
meeting rooms, a ballroom, fitness center, indoor
pool, four restaurants and a night club. Thirteen
offices and shops will also be offered for lease.
The plot of land is owned by Elegan Tourism Inc. and
the project will be funded by the company as well.
"We believe that an international-standard chain
hotel will meet an unserved need in this market and
for that reason we resolved to make this
investment," says Elegan chairman of the board Sarp
Turanlıgil. "We feel that we are particularly lucky
to be able to join a visionary Turkish hotel chain
like Divan Hotels, especially in light of the
growing role that Turkish companies and executives

Hawrami: Joint coordination
between KRG and Federal health ministries to prevent
swine flu spread
Dr. Taher Hawrami, minister of health in Kurdistan
Regional Government in a press statement at
Sulaimaniyah International Airport said that the
purpose behind the visit of health minister in the
Federal Government to Kurdistan Region is to offer
congratulations to the new Government, pointing out
to coordination between the two ministries in
Baghdad and Erbil to prevent the outbreak of the
H1N1 virus.
Kurdish girls in Iraq smoke
to compete with boys
Erbil: In the region Kurdistan (Iraq) a lot of girls
smoke cigarettes to ‘compete’ with boys and to show
them they are equal to them. Student of medicine
Amina Hassan (22) says she knows the consequences,
but still wants to show she is equal to boys. “I
want to show boys that there are no differences
between me and them.” Statistics show that more
girls start to smoke on universities and high
schools. Dr. Faysal Arab Bilbas, chairman of the
Society to Ban Smoking in Kurdistan says it’s
scientifically proven that nicotine is bad for the
human body. Bilbas says it also effects the ‘status
and honour of a woman’. Psychologist Karim
Sharif says there is a television effect in
Kurdistan and that many girls copy-cat the smoking
of actors on television. “In our society the
traditions is that only men smoke and women are
forbidden to do that, because it’s shameful. This
has a psychological effect on young ladies that
resist against the things society prohibits them”.
Allocating 15% of
Information Section seats to journalists in
Kurdistan Region
The minister of higher education and scientific
research in Kurdistan Regional Government Dr. Dlawer
Ala’Aldeen decided to allocate %15 of seats in the
information section in the universities and
institutes to the journalists in Kurdistan Region.

Ala’Aldeen and Head of the Journalists Union in
Kurdistan Region Farhad Awni in Erbil on November

During the days of Eid al-Adha, lots of inhabitants
from southern and central Iraq have come to
Sulaimaniyah province to enjoy a good time in the
feast due to the peace, stability and security that
prevail in the Kurdistan Region.

A/H1N1 flu death
A man in northern Iraqi city of Kirkuk died due to
the A/H1N1 flu virus, a medical source in the city
said on Sunday. "A man in his thirties died of
A/H1N1 flu at the main hospital of al-Hawija town,
some 70 km southwest of Kirkuk," Dr. Siddeeq Omar
Rasoul, head assistant of Kirkuk Health Office told
Xinhua on Sunday. The man who was the first killed
by the deadly disease in Kirkuk had been treated at
an isolated room exclusively for A/H1N1patients in
the hospital but the doctors failed to save his
life, Rasoul said. The latest death brings the
number of Iraqis who have been claimed by the A/H1N1
flu disease across the country to 13. In October,
Ihsan Jaafar, director general of the public health
department in Iraqi Ministry of Health, told
reporters that his ministry registered a total of
472 cases of A/H1N1 virus in the violence-ravaged
