Barzani pardons 250
prisoners in Kurdistan
Erbil: President Massoud Barzani of the Iraqi
Kurdistan region issued an amnesty to release 250
prisoners in the region for the occasion of Eid
(Muslim festival). “The amnesty decision was sent to
the region’s cabinet,” Foad Hussein, the head of the
region’s presidency office, said in a press
statement on Thursday received by Aswat al-Iraq news
agency. He said that the pardoned prisoners had not
committed major crimes, such as killing or terror.
“Amnesty will be denied to any of the 250 released
prisoners in case they commit any crime within the
coming three years,” Hussein said.
Five-day Bairam holiday in
Kurdistan
Erbil: Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) announced
on Friday that Kurdistan will be taking a five-day
holiday starting from Friday (Nov. 27) until Tuesday
(Dec. 1) for the occasion of the Bairam (Eiduladha).
“The cabinet’s chairmanship congratulated Muslims in
Iraq and around the world on the occasion of
Eiduladha and announced a five-day holiday until
Tuesday (Dec.1),” according to a statement released
by the KRG’s website. The government wishes peace
and prosperity prevail throughout the country.
Belgian company plans
tram-project in Erbil
Erbil: A Belgian company is in Iraq's Kurdistan
Region capital, Erbil, to discuss plans for the
construction of a tram rail-network inside the city,
reports the Kurdish version of PUKmedia newswire on
Thursday. "The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG)
Minister of Transportation and Communication, Anwar
Jabli Shabo, received on Wednesday a delegation from
the Belgian company Silcat, specialized in the field
of railways, metros and trams," announces Pukmedia.
The delegation is visiting Kurdistan Region to
discuss the possibility of constructing a
tram-network inside Erbil, to ease traffic
congestions on the city's roads and simplify
transport of citizens inside the capital, adds the
report. During their meeting, the Belgians showed
readiness to implement and advice on rail-projects
in Kurdistan Region. Erbil, with an estimated
population of 2 million, is the capital of Kurdistan
Region. The fast developing city lies 350 km north
of Baghdad and is regarded as the safest and most
prosperous area in Iraq. Other significant
rail-projects in Kurdistan Region include the
construction of a link between the provincial
capitals Sulaimaniyah and Kirkuk, implemented by the
federal Iraqi Ministry of Transportation and
Communication.
Kurdistan’s deputy premier, British consul review
investments in region
Erbil: Kurdistan’s deputy prime minister discussed
with British general consul in Kurdistan and
northern Iraq ways of encouraging investments in the
region. “Azad Barwari expressed the Kurdistan
Regional Government’s (KRG) readiness to present all
facilities to British investors and businessmen to
invest in the region,” KRG said in a statement
received by Aswat al-Iraq news agency. “The consul
supports British businessmen and companies to invest
their money in Kurdistan and to take part in the
reconstruction operations in the region,” the
statement added.
Iraq's Minister of Health
is set to visit Kurdistan Region
Upon invitation of KRG Minister for Health Dr. Tahir
Hawrami, Iraq's Minister of Health Dr. Salih al-Hasnawi
is due in Sulaimaniyah province this evening,
November 26, via the Sulaimaniyah International
Airport. Regarding this scheduled visit, Dr. Rekawt
Hama Rashid director general of Sulaimaniyah health
in an exclusive statement told PUKmedia, “Dr.
Hawrami has invited the Iraq's Minister of Health to
visit Sulaimaniyah province to closely observe the
latest news on Swine Flu recently led to death of
two civilians, aged 59 and 35, in addition to seven
swine flu patients are now under the medical care.
