assaulted in Iraqi Kurdistan, Sulaimaniyah

SULAIMANIYAH,
Kurdistan region 'Iraq', — Dara Haji Tofiq known as
( Dara Teufiq Axa), was
physically assaulted in front of his home in the
city of Sulaimaniyah by four unidentified
individuals.
The four perpetrators, who used a local taxi for
transportation and waited in front of the house of
their victim until he was back. When their victim
was back he was assaulted from behind with metal
rods. During this,www.ekurd.neta
neighbour was arrived in his car, who wanted to
follow them, the perpetrators shot the car forcing
the driver to stop; and escaped in their taxi.
The assault happened at 3:00 pm local time during
the daylight, which makes people believe that the
people were confident of their task. The victim,
Dara Haji Tofiq, logged a complaint in the local
court. The case is under investigation.
Tofiq is a businessman and a former brigadier in the
Iraqi army.
Tofiq is an activist of Gorran movement and this
assault is similar to that of the Kurdish prominent
journalist Nabaz Goran
in the regional capital a couple of weeks ago.
Here in Kurdistan, these assaults has created an
atmosphere of fear among the people, as they think
this is a new wave of assault of intellectuals and
activists who are in persute of the PUK and KDP
corruption.
The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan PUK is led by Iraqi President Jalal Talabani and
the Kurdistan Democratic Party KDP is led by Kurdistan region President Massoud
Barzani.
