10 Kurdish MPs retire
illegally
Erbil:10 MPs working in the Kurdish parliament took
42.000 dollars pension for six months, but they are
not retired yet. Recently the second Kurdish cabinet
was formed by the Prime Minister Barham Salih. A
Kurdish MP who preferred to remain anonymous told
Rudaw: “When we retire, each of us get 42.000
dollars as a pension for six months, as a ‘respect
for services’, but 9 MPS of the Kurdistani list [KDP
& PUK] and a MP of the Gorran list, took the money
without retiring.” The MP confronted the MPS. “I
told them: don’t take the money. This is a shame.
But they ignored it and took it. Some of them didn’t
take the money from the banks, out of fear for the
journalists and media, but the money is now on their
bank account!” Rudaw net

Sulaimaniyah Tunnel to open
in November
Sulaimaniyah: A strategic tunnel in the city of
Sulaimaniyah, eastern Kurdistan Region, will open in
the beginning of November, reveals a source from the
project. “The Museum Tunnel, on Salem Street, will
officially open in the beginning of November, thus
reducing traffic on the city’s main boulevard,” says
Anwar Mahmoud, supervisor and engineer at the
project. The Museum Tunnel, near Sulaimaniyah’s
Museum, cost US$10 million and is designed by the
Lebanese Dar Al-Handasa Company and built by Turkish
Yozlar Company. “The necessity of the project comes
as the city has become too crowded around the
downtown area. Salem Street, where the tunnel is
located, is Sulaimaniyah’s main road and its prime
business district,” Explains Mahmoud. According to
him the tunnel-project aims at decreasing traffic
congestions in the centre of the city. The project
started on August 4 and will be implemented within
90 days of its start-date.
