It is not the Kurd’s fault that their land is
divided between five neighboring states
August 28, 2008
Kyrgyzstan, — “The National-Democratic party
Uluu Birimdik believes that every nation has a right
for self-identification,” the party’s leader Emilbek
Kaptagaev said in comment to Russia’s decision to
recognize independence of South Ossetia.
“We witness the double-standards policy in the
issues of south Ossetia and Abkhazia, from both
Russian and American sides. Remember Yugoslavia,
Ichkeria, etc.,” Kaptagaev stressed.
“Problems occur because of incompleteness of nations
and peoples self-identification. The USSR was the
only country in the world history which constitution
allowed peoples to self-identify,www.ekurd.net
up to separation.
Peoples of Abkhazia and South Ossetia have a full
right for self-identification and we should admit
that. As well as the Chechen, Ingush, Barshkir,
Tatar, Yakut and Tuva nations which appeared to be a
part of Russian Empire in XVII-XIX cc. This is the
problem of many other ethnos. It is not the Kurd’s
fault that their land is divided between five
neighboring states. Or what is the fault of the
Tibetan and Uighurs?” the expert questioned.
“The concept of territorial integrity should be
applied only to self-identified unitary states, such
as Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Japan,
Mongolia, Germany and others, which official
boundaries match with the historical place of living
of their state-formative ethnos,” Kaptagaev said.
