Erbil-Hewler, Kurdistan region "Iraq", —
Iraq’s Kurdistan Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani
praised the Kurdistan Region’s police force for
maintaining peace and stability and upholding the
supremacy of the law in a speech he made on Sunday
at a police graduation ceremony.
The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime
Minister addressed the 2008 graduating class of the
Police Academy at the Academy Campus in Erbil, the
regional capital. The evening ceremony included
impressive displays by the graduating men and women.
Prime Minister Barzani emphasised the police force’s
role in helping the Kurdistan Region to achieve its
goals. He said, “Whatever we achieve in any field
depends on your success and on your ability to
perform professionally.”
He added, “There is progress in the economy,www.ekurd.net
and there is also
progress in the field of public services and
infrastructure. This occurred with the help of the
police, Peshmerga, and all other security forces,
whose efforts have made an important impact in
improving the economy and welfare of the people.
This has become a reality after long years of being
subjected to injustice and persecution.”
Under the former Iraqi Ba’ath regime, the police was
used as an instrument of intimidation and oppression
of all sections of society. Today’s men and women
officers police the Kurdistan Region with the
public's consent and cooperation, contributing to
its peaceful democratic progress. Close cooperation
between the public and the police and security
forces has helped to keep Kurdistan relatively safe
from violence and terrorism.
The Prime Minister said that armed with the latest
training methods and academic study, the graduates
can go about their duties with respect and
understanding for human rights and international law
while ensuring general safety. |

because you also must abide by the law, and you must
use the law only to serve the public good. You must
ensure that violence will no longer be used against
women. Indeed,www.ekurd.net
you must make great
efforts to ensure that violence will be eradicated
from society altogether.”

equality in society.
